Teller City is a ghost town in Routt National Forest that is now a national forest Historic Site. There are interepative signs, picnic tables and a nice walking trail to explore the old town.

Teller City was a true boom and bust town high in the Colorado Rockies. Silver was discovered in 1879 and by 1882 the town boomed and the population exceeded 1800. There was a 40 room hotel and 27 saloons and hundreds of log cabins. The cabins were usually one room with an outhouse within 100 feet. However, there were a few larger cabins built. The residents even started to construct a series of streets for wagons and buggies. In 1884, the price of silver dropped so quickly that the residents abandoned the town almost overnight.

Stopped in again today — everything is in great condition!

On the trail to Baker Pass with Path Pacer, BugRanger, and GotYour6, and had to stop for this one. The history is definitely interesting, but there's really not a lot to see at the cache site itself. Around the area, as we continued up the 4X4 road to Baker Pass, we spotted the remains of several mines and that gave us some flavor of the area and its history too.

I got my Subaru here with no problems. Even though there are a few ruts, a regular car can make it this far. Beyond here--well, I gave up on the Outback about a mile farther on, and we crowded into GotYour6's Jeep for the ride to the trailhead. It was a fun day though; TFTC!

We were on our way to get the virtual at Baker Pass, so naturally we had to stop off and get this one. Interesting history, but I kind of wish they'd reconstructed a bit more than the one cabin. The interpretive sign looks like it's been burnt or something. It was mostly unreadable.

It's kind of funny Bug Ranger dropped off a "Jack Squat" microcoin, as this site is along Jack Creek. I left a pathtag. Thanks!

Found with EstesLynne, PathPacer & GotYour6 on our way to Baker Pass. Easy drive to this point in the Subaru, but the road became more suitable for the Jeep towards Baker Pass. Nice area, although I expected more old cabins & other evidence from the silver mining days. Left a "Jack Squat" geocoin, suitable since this spot is along Jack Creek. Please take the coin to other 4x4 USFS roads. TFTC!
