The cache is a 35mm container. It is not winter friendly.
This is one of the caches in a series of caches dedicated to Fallen Flag railroads. Fallen Flags are those railroads that no longer exist either through abandonment or corporate takeover. With each cache will come a short history lesson explaining a little something about the railroad.

DSP&P are the initials of the Denver, South Park, and Pacific railroad. It was a narrow gauge line (3’ between the rails) that started life in Denver in 1874 and was headed to the mining camps in the mountains. A number of routes were considered. The first was to go up Bear Creek, the second featured Turkey Creek, and the third, which was ultimately selected, went along the course of the Platte River through Waterton Canyon and over Kenosha Pass.

Jefferson Station was the first stop for the railroad in South Park after clearing Kenosha Pass. It opened in the spring of 1879. The blue and white structure with the interesting corbels that support the roof is the original station. Keep in mind that prior to 1879, there were no real roads from Denver to South Park so it was quite a journey to go from one to the other. The railroad provided easy transportation for goods and passengers. You can still see the roadbed for the railroad on the northwest side of US 285 between the bottom of the pass almost all the way to Como.

The cache is a short distance from the station. The original station is now occupied by an ice cream stand, in season I believe, and a real estate office. Walk in if it is open and enjoy the feel of railroad construction and the sense of a waiting room from days gone by.

The Mixed Breed ver 2.0 (Sir Barney) and I traveled from St. Louis to Longmont to visit a friend who lives there. One of my goals (my friend is a muggle), was to visit Tarryall. So today we headed down that way. Of course, I couldn't just drive straight there when there were caches along the way so we stopped at a few. I tried to pick ones that might also interest my friend. This was one of our stops. A very interesting spot.
