Rock formation with spectacular view located south of Old Stage Road near Penrose Rosemont Reservoir.

Park at 38 43.828 104 56.312 along Old Stage Road. Hike up the eroded area to a faint trail that turns uphill at 38 43.784 104 56.544. It forks after about 20 yards or so – take the right fork which heads straight uphill to a saddle at 38 43.585 104 56.589. Then follow the ridge toward the cache site.

I had some difficulty getting accurate coordinates in the hallway itself. Two ways to access hallway - by climbing over a five-foot boulder at or near 38 43.562 104 56.389 or crawling in (if you're thin) from at or near 38 43.557 104 56.389. No danger involved.

This cache is also one of a series of five caches (GC1FWA2, GC1FWAH, GC1FWAZ, GC1FWBB, GC1FWC9)all in the same area that contains a necessary clue-sheet to solve Crypto Cache # 10 – ENIGMA (GC1G01E). The following information relates only to Crypto Cache # 10 –ENIGMA and is not necessary or related to finding this cache.

REFLECTOR

The final important component of the Enigma machine is the reflector which is a stationary device positioned after the scramblers. The reflector is similar in some respects to the scramblers, but with some important differences. The reflector also has a unique internal wiring such that a letter entering at one of the twenty-six locations will emerge at another position but with the reflector, the wires (or encrypted letters) enter on one side and emerge on the same side at a different location. Also the reflector does not rotate.

After emerging from the reflector, an encrypted letter is “reflected” back through the entire scrambler arrangement in the reverse direction. Note that nothing rotates as a letter is reflected back through the scramblers and their individual wiring patterns and then lights up the corresponding letter on the keyboard, e.g. K emerges from third scrambler, enters the reflector and leaves the reflector in, let’s say, the Y position. It then passes through the scramblers in the third, second and first positions in the reverse direction and emerges in, let’s say, the T position and lights up the T on the keyboard.

I’ve eyeballed this ridge for a number of years, and I was happy that today I finally had the chance to come after this one. I have to admit I did not read the cache description carefully before I hiked up here. Once I got to GZ and saw what was required, I let out my best Scooby Doo “Rut Row” because you never know how it will turn at caches / terrain like this. I chose the “climbing” route over the “squeezing” route since I’m better at climbing than being thin. My first serious attempt saw me climb way too high, but trying to get down from the position I got myself in definitely kept things interesting. I managed to make it to the “hallway” (pretty cool spot), even though I’m not sure I did it right since there was some climbing and squeezing on my part. Once in the “hallway” I was lucky enough to find the cache quickly. Once in my hand, I am quite confident I heard an old knight from nearby Knights Peak say, “you chose wisely.”

I also didn’t notice, until I looked at the log, that this one hasn’t been found in almost 5 years. Really? Too bad, this is a fun cache. Bad for the cache, but good for me because I keep track of my lonely cache finds for challenge caches. With this find, I now have (counting only 1 year or more lonely) a total of 134 years, 2 months lonely time on 64 caches from 11 North American States & Provinces.

Thanks to the CO for placing this nice cache for everyone to find, TFTC.

Hi -the other day when I rounded up the enigma parts, the CO wrote me a note pretty quick to say Hi & nice hike. I emailed back about the condition of this one, and tho he's out of town he sent back real quick a PDF of what should be in this cache. I had no way to reproduce (print) it.. but a careful hand drawn version proved successful. I returned numerous copies to here this morning, and the whole series is good to go. Wet your fingertip and pull out a sheet from the center; give it a twist as you pull & it will come right out.

! Was this the second!!?? Well it seemed like a pretty painless 'whack from the one to the west. I found the can in the hallway pretty easily after I got done 'up above' enjoying the view. I photo'd the can & replacement logsheet (presumably from just a few days ago?) I had a decent flashligh on hand and could find no trace of the original lid or contents anywhere in the recesses.

Cool Hallway. Found the cache with JavaChip but the container was empty. Added a new log and placed in container. TFTC!

There is no easy way to get good coords for this one. From the east side I thought I could see where someone had done some scrambling. Right behind a very large ponderosa pine I had luck. Snailman and I spent way too much time trying to come in from the west side. Some good Samaritan could replace this container with an ammo can. The lid is getting chewed by some determined animal. Vort.

After finding Knights Peak we headed down that peak and then up to this cache. I first zeroed out on the West side of the rocks and I looked all over with no luck. Vorticity headed out to the other side and it wasn't too long before I heard him call out with the find. I now looked at by GPS and it said head East another 50 ft. I circle around (no doubt the hard way) until I too found the cache. This one was the hardest of the set to find. TFTC.
