A quick find in the heart of Lowry! 

This East Denver neighborhood was established in 1994 when Lowry Air Force Base closed. Here's some cool facts:

  • Lowry Field was named for 2nd Liutenent Francis Lowry, the only Colorado pilot killed in WWI
  • The base was used for training during WWII and the Cold War.
  • From 1952 - 1953, Lowry AFB was the summer White House for President Dwight D. Eisenhower
  • It was also the initial site of the U.S. Air Force Academy from 1955-1958
  • The former Hangar #1 is now the Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum (you can see it from the cache!)
