The third Gnome Home in the series.  This Gnome Home is much harder to reach than the previous ones.  Depending on how you approach this one, you will either get a fun scramble up the boulder field on the end of Mt. Glennon, or a real calf stretcher up the front of the mountain.  Either way, you will be provided by spectacular views in all directions when you reach the top.  This is not a cache and dash!
My father named the little pockets that occur in red rock and lime stone 'Gnome Homes', because they look like good places for a gnome to set-up a home, or at least use for temporary shelter.  A Gnome Home is usually a small pocket in sandstone created by erosion, but it can also be a natural gap in limestone created by the movement of rock over time.  On Mt. Glennon, the ridgeline is limestone, so this Gnome Home is located in a space near the top that is the result of this rock movement.  The home faces west, and should have some rocks put up as walls to give the gnome some privacy.

There really is no easy approach to this cache.  I located this spot while walking the ridgeline from one end to the other.  I did the boulder scramble up the north end, which provided some fun scrambling/climbing, but this is definitely not the easiest way up.  You can go around the west side or east side, and have some steep bushwhacking if you aren't comfortable with scrambling/climbing.  Be sure to wear long pants though...your legs will get scratched up if you choose to bushwhack.

The cache is a decon box with a few toys, log, and a Firefly TB for the FTF.  Be sure to bring your own pen/pencil.  Definitely not recommended for children, and if you bring your dogs, keep an eye on them around the edge of the ridge.

While you're in the area, I'd suggest hitting the caches Bears and Stairs (GC36V9Y), Mt. Glennon 360 (GC2D05N), Flat Road on a Steep Hill (GC1FW9D), and the benchmark KK1849, which is near the summit of the mountain.

Congratulations to Quigman, FTF! I wasn't expecting anyone to find this for a long time, much less the day it posted!

 Hints

Near the top of the ridgeline, faces west, and has some rocks placed in front of it which definitely look out of place on the ledge where the cache is placed.

Icezebra11 and I came to Denver this morning to play through the stages of the marvelous new virtual cache, Ordinary Wizarding Levels (O.W.L.s). We were finished with the virtual by late morning and decided to come to Green Mountain and Mt. Glennon for an afternoon of cache-finding before heading north to our homes in the Fort Collins area. It was a wonderfully warm mid-January day, and we had a delightful time. Gnome Home 3 was one of four caches we went after--the final one--, found, and signed logs for while we were on the mountain. It was a memorable bushwhacking hike that I will always recall positively. This was a toughie to find, and we were both really pleased when icezebra11 called out, finally, "I've GOT it!!". Thanks for this great cache, beartooth72!

Denali41 and I drove down from the Ft Collins area to find some caches around Denver. We first spent a few hours driving around the city collecting information for the new O.W.L. virtual cache. After finishing that one, we headed for Green Mountain to stretch our legs and pursue Jurassic Box. After that warm-up we drove over to Glennon to get some more exercise. This was the last of the four caches we got in the area and it took us awhile to locate. Neither of our GPSrs really zeroed in on this one for some reason, each of them pointing a different direction. Must have been something in the air! But after a bit of searching we came up with the well hidden container and signed the log. Then we headed back down the steep ridge to our awaiting car. Thanks beartooth72!!!

On my second try, came up from the east and made it to GZ. Spent about 30 minutes investigating all the little caves and grottoes I could find, but no luck. Feel compelled to mention that the ridgeline is actually capped by the Dakota sandstone, just like it is at Dinosaur Ridge to the north. Great ripple marks in the sandstone. Thanks for bringing me here!

Awesome spot! Attempted Bears and stairs and then continued up the north side until the stairs ran out. From there I bushwhacked up the east until I came to the ridge. I sat and enjoyed the views for a while. Caches that bring me to locations like this are some of my favorites. Read some logs and the cache page. Scoped out the west side of the ridge and then began my search. Soon I spotted a likely spot and had the cache in hand! Sl, thanks!
