The Climb

The name says it all and yep, it's up on top.  A 0.6 mile hike from the parking area and then a short climb to the top of the rock.

Park at the "Rock Park" parking lot and take the fun trail to the summit. The trail to the rock is about 0.6 miles with about 320 feet of elevation gain. Once at the rock, go to the east side to find the one area where it is possible to climb to the top (see reference point W2). The short climb is fairly easy but some may not want to attempt it (Disclaimer: Go at your own risk and note that the weather can turn quickly here in Castle Rock, so heed signs of bad weather). I am not a fan of heights and I have made the climb twice without any problem but I would never get Mrs. RocketMan up there. The 3.5 star terrain rating is just because of the short climb up the rock.

Don't forget to bring your own pen.

Overcoming my newfound fear of heights, the discovery of this cache was awesome! The view is fantastic! Tfth!

I made the climb to the “observation level” and walked all the way around looking for a way up to the top. I didn’t see an obvious one and until I read the cache page and saw the waypoint for the final climb. There was a rope there but I didn’t use it. Once I got to the top I saw that the Castle Rock Fire and Rescue were on top doing mountain rescue drills. I figured if I fell they could have some real practice.
Once I got close and spotted the cache I thought, “you have to be kidding!” I thought it must have fallen from its normal location. Then I noticed the method for retrieval, breathed a sigh of relief, signed the log and headed for the climb down. Thanks for the beautiful view and the experience.

Just visiting the cache today. Did an interview about the positive impact of geocaching with 9News, and we showed them this cache because it was my very first find.

The beginning of the addiction! Pic added from after interview up top.

Found with @intrepiidexplorer and @windatmyback while hustling to complete the Hidden Creatures campaign. TFTC! @intrepiidexplorer and I braved our way to the top in the fading light. I was surprised to discover we weren't alone. There were several others on top, watching the sunset. We wandered until we found the cache, but discovered that the log and bottom of the cache were gone. A short (but dangerous) search revealed their location. @intrepiidexplorer managed to slink into the narrow crevice and find the parts so that I could reassemble them. Returned the cache to it's proper place and made our way back down. A memorable experience. Thank you!

Wow! The bottom and log had fallen out to the 1 ft wide overhanging ledge below. It was scary retrieving it, but I managed! Tftc :)

What a shame. After an exciting scramble to the top I could not find the cache. In fact more than once my phone indicated off the edge. For me GZ was a scrubby bush with a pipe running into it. Descending was a little trickier than going up. Thanks for bringing me here.

I had the good fortune to be out caching today with the5millers, MagicCacher and herndonrd on an overcast day in Castle Rock. We decided to go all the way up to the top of the rock since none of us had ever done it before. We found the right entrance point and began our ascent. Since I am well known for having zero agility and climbing skills, the rest of the group was stunned when I channelled my inner billy goat and made it to the top first. Moments later reality set in and I was slowly catching my breath while the rest of our crew went straight to the cache and made the grab. At least they were kind enough to show me where you hid it. After we did the whole sign and replace thing we took a few minutes to enjoy the view before climbing back down the rock. We were fortunate in that we were back on the trail right before the rain began to fall. Thanks for the fun hide and for your contribution to a great day of caching with good people and herndonrd.

How do I begin with this one. WOW!! That was an amazing adventure. Without this cache being up here we probably would have never climbed all the way up. Good thing the rocks were not too wet, but we had a plan to get all the caches here today. Rain or shine. Great spot and awesome views. Thanks for helping us fill another spot on our Fizzy Grid today.

Found on a 10 day road trip with Mtnfrog, driving from Washington to New Mexico and back through Utah, seeking the long way home and admiring road side geology. had this one on the list before I left home, wonderful hike and hide, wish I could multiple favorite it.

I've been in the area from Tennessee for a few days attending a conference in Denver. I spent several years living here when I was a kid years ago so I had to come back for a visit. I have fond memories of climbing here so I had to do it again especially since there's a cache!

I made it to the top and after about 5-10 minutes of searching I finally found it. That's when the wife and I discovered we thought each other had grabbed the pen and neither one of us had. I've attached a photo of the log. Thanks for helping bring back childhood memories.
