!! Exciting Cache Series!!

"COLORADO SPIRIT QUEST"

REMEMBER:

If you are APPREHENSIVE about cemeteries – AVOID this series.

The Colorado Spirit Quest is a series of Caches placed by many individuals, near cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of paying respect to the many pioneer ancestors that have 'walked' before us.

If you are interested in being a part of this project, contact may be made by sending an e-mail to the owner of "Colorado Spirit Quest #1 – Mountain Passage". Use the 'Send Message" link at the center of the page of their profile.

There are hundreds of cemeteries in the rural and mountain communities across Colorado. This series will introduce you to many of them.

The cache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the cemeteries and tombstones.

COLORADO SPIRIT QUEST is not affiliated with any other 'Spirit Quest' group. Special thanks and credit are given to SixDogTeam who started the Indiana Spirit Quest in 2004. The idea has rapidly spread into many states.

The CSQ endeavor is an enormous and relentless task and will only flourish if there is a multitude of volunteer cachers willing to place these caches.

After locating the cache container, take some time to reflect back on the lives of those pioneers and the effort it took to make Colorado such a great state.

Each person that places a CSQ cache is responsible for its maintenance.

Thanks to Volunteers: Greasepot, Taylorgeotracker, Ivy Dog Parents, Team Boogity3, Grand High Pobah, Boborr 80909, Imusttravel2000, Buzz Lightyear I, Sandhill 49er, MrVolkswagen, Isisfan, LadyCoots, Rockymtn8iv, Fork-L-Man, TwoCs, Outdrlvr201, Condor1, 2Cachedivers, arthurat, smilz787, Kyotmoon, Mountain Roamer, Cuttie Pie, SugarPug, Team Tiger Pride, ernie66, drnetwork, Team w-bar-v, Dynamite Rabbit, Twins18, Dusty Kat, mtnbirders, The Johnson Family, RustyBeerCan & Marma, grymreaper, nteclpr, Irish.Eyes, Moose1 & Mama Moose, Joe Friday, 3cacheteers, and Electronicgeek.

The building looks like it was the church for this area.

There was a 'swarm' of bees, wasps or hornets in and around the building.

We found about 20 headstones. The oldest date of death was 1917.

The cache is about 500 feet from the road.

Today I had an extraordinary idea. After work I headed up north to grab as many caches as possible. My goal was 50 and I ended up with 80. Pretty good, but it took all evening. I didn't return home until 11:55 pm and worked the next day at 7:00 am. Oh well, life of a geocacher. During my travels I saw a few hawks or eagles (too far away for me to identify), prairie dogs, many song birds, two pronghorns, a raccoon, and a special treat. I'm pretty sure I saw a badger. It had a similar shape to a raccoon, but looked like a blonde skunk. It had a white stripe between it's eyes instead of a black stripe like a raccoon. I also saw my first of the season rattlesnake. It was crossing the road. It wasn't bothered by me and I didn't bother it. The day began northeast of Barr Lake and ended up all the way down in Deer Trail. My FJ is racking up a lot of miles in the name of geocaching.
Interesting to find small cemeteries in the middle of nowhere. TFTC!

I am visiting my daughter again here in this great state, and I just had to go on a power run once more. Thank you to all of the CO's that placed these caches out here. I certainly love visiting these remote areas as one can only wonder the stories of these places from long ago. I replaced the log as they it was in rough shape. TFTC
