City of Murals: Delta, CO #15
Discover and enjoy a portion of the Delta story in its murals
The wealth of murals in Delta, Colorado, created by local artists celebrates the heritage of this community. Most are located along Main Street. This series is numbered in the order in which the murals were painted.
It all started in 1986 when the city was awarded funds for an urban renewal project. A portion of these funds were set aside to begin the “mural project”. The success of this project has led to the expansion of the Delta Public Art Committee which is currently continuing the mural project and initiating a new program for sculpture and other 3 dimensional media art in public places.
In this series of multi-caches, the coordinates given are a virtual (the mural) from which you will gather information to find the second stage which will contain the log to be signed. The second stage has a connection to the first, perhaps only in the owners’ minds, but can you read our minds?
"Greetings from Delta Colorado" is a highly detailed mural which displays a stylized view of Delta in 1914 (the eve of WWI for the U.S.). The style of this painting is unique in the City of Murals and when viewing other works by this artist, appears to be a departure from the norm for him as well. The perspective Bowerman used here contributes to the illusion of 'depth' of this view of Delta Main Street, as if looking south from somewhere in the 200 block. The sepia mural has the feel of a souvenir postal card of yesteryear.

You may notice there is no #6 in this geocache series.
If you turn around and look east across Main Street before you leave for the second stage of #15, you will see the site of the old building that had mural #6 painted on it. The new building is a vast improvement, but the mural titled “High Country Round-Up” at N 38° 44.721 W 108° 04.222 is no more. To view mural #6 see http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM94HK_High_Country_Roundup_Delta_CO
This tribute to the annual round-up was financed by the Delta Livestock Association and the Delta County Cowbells. The artist, Virginia Blackstock, works primarily in watercolors, so this mural was a departure for her. The style used blending as one traditionally sees in watercolors. This technique 'softened' the faces of the heifers. To read the fate of this mural see: http://en.calameo.com/read/000138363cb9174cdab88
