A day to honor the insect responsible for 1/3rd of the food we eat and their beekeepers.
It is the only insect that produces food eaten by man.
Honey is the only food that includes all the substances necessary to sustain life, including enzymes, vitamins, minerals and water. Its the only food that containes pinocembrin, an antioxidant associated with improved brain functioning.
The honey bee's wings stroke at 200 beats per second, making the distinctive buzz.
The average worker bee lives for just 6 to 8 weeks and produces only about 1/12th teaspoon of honey in her lifetime. Yes her, only female honey bees work, the males are for mating with the queen bee only. Worker females fly the equivalent of 1 1/2 times the circumference of the earth, and the most common death is wearing their wings out.

08/18/2018 By Sqweeter Nice to see & chat with cachers I haven't seen for a while. Great start to a beautiful weather day. Even had time to get a little caching in with GanderGoose & lasouthpaw before the rained moved in. Thanks for hosting 77s.
08/18/2018 By Golden B's I was so sorry I had to leave early and now, looking at the logs, I'm even sorrier for missing so many people who came after I left! My daughter and I just walked around my back yard and saw many different types of honey bees feeding away on the flowers. She was amazed! We have an apiary in our family, but my back yard bees don't look like the ones I remember at the apiary. Happy Honey Bee Day to everyone and thank you once again for a great event and interesting information!
