GC1734 Traditional Cache Old Ute Cache
Type: Traditional | Size: Regular Regular | Difficulty: 2 out of 5 | Terrain: 2 out of 5
By: Carrie @ | Hide Date: 08/18/2001 | Status: Available
Country: United States | State: Colorado
Coordinates: N39° 37.831 W105° 13.316 | Last updated: 08/30/2019 | Fav points: 12

Near the Old Ute Trail in Mount Falcon Park. Requires some climbing, so be cautious with children. Please respect the beauty of this park and enjoy your cache visit!

Please visit the information kiosk at the West Entrance if you need a site specific map. I do not recommend "Rambo-ing" through the park to get to the cache. Hint: The cache is called Old Ute cache for a reason... Please respect the local wildlife and other park users by not creating any new trails to the caches. Trails already exist to the cache locations - which helps for understanding the need for mapping knowledge along with "as the crow flies" GPS-ing!

Cache is an ammo box under some rocks. I used a Trimble GPS unit so the accuracy is dead-on.

Items in the cache are:

  • Raincoat
  • Temporary Tattoos (Biker, and Celtic)
  • Insect Specimen Box
  • Dinosaur
  • Army pencil

Happy Geocaching! Carrie

Great day for a walk in the park and the breeze kept it from being too hot. TFTC

My first cache in quite some time. It was an afterthought while hiking old friendly trails. The route I took put me and the prize on opposite sides of a snake who would not be hurried. Pics to follow. TNLN signed log.
Thanks for creating this cache!

After getting home and online, I realized I had found this back in 2001!

My final find of the day and a little bit of a climb. My phone power was down in the single digits but I got it! TFTC!

On this, the last good caching day of 2017, I decided to go after the "Ute Loop" caches. Great trail (I should know, I worked this stretch on a volunteer trail maintenance crew back in October) and calm on an otherwise blustery day. Dropped off a proxy and picked up a rock speciman.
