George Orwell (1903-50) was an English novelist, journalist, and critic, who focused on social justice and totalitarianism. He is best known for his novels Animal Farm and 1984.

Orwell's work is rather influential in popular and political culture. Now part of the English language, Big Brother is a fictional character and symbol in his novel 1984. Big Brother is the leader of a totalitarian state where the ruling party has total power 'for its own sake.' Every citizen is under surveillance by the authorities, and people are reminded that "Big Brother is watching you." Big Brother symbolizes abuse of government power, loss of civil liberties, and mass surveillance.

Orwell gave us other terms such as: Orwellian, Thought Police, Hate Week, and Facecrime. Thankfully none of these apply to geocaching!

This cache is placed with permission on the Dao House property. I am certain the dystopian view of the world by Mr. Orwell is quite the opposite of the Dao House! Enjoy the views of Meeker, Longs Peak, Estes Cone, and Twin Sisters.

Haven't been in town much this summer but of course had to go after a few when I did return. This was an easy find and there was no one around. I was the only car parked in the area that I could see, so worrying about Muggles wasn't a problem. It's a great afternoon for this--sunny with pleasant temperatures. It's always a gamble this time of year but today I won! TFTC of course.
