TMCS (SS)

August 11, 2018 Shawn has retired from the US Navy after 24 years of dedicated service.

July 2010 Shawn has just been promoted to Senior Chief TMCS (SS)

08/07/2006 My Son has been promoted to CHIEF TORPEDOMAN (SS)

So I have named this cache in his honor for his promotion to Chief Petty Officer. We should remember that its young men and women who make the sacrifices so we can have our freedoms in this wonderful country. So when you finally reach the cache, pause a moment and give them their due accord.

Carry on Son.

After you park your vehicle it is not necessary to don your pack. Just find the main coordinates for your first set of instructions, which are at Navel Height, azimuth is 350° to location and 225° to pinacle.

PLEASE LEAVE THE CLUE FOR THE NEXT CACHER - Thank You.

Note:

This cache requires some real land navigation skills along with the use of your GPS. You will have to read a map and make a decision as to what is the best route to the cache. Doing a GOTO from the first set of instructions is not a safe or wise way to find this one.

Knowledge of How to use UTM's and Maps & Compasses and what a Nautical Mile is; are some essential components of this cache.

Here are several choices for maps.

Cache History

This Cache was born as The Hearty Cache for Hearty Cachers was renamed The Heart Transplant when it was moved different location in Nov. '04, that has some of the toughest back country I have seen in a long while. In August '06 it was moved to a more accesible location with some awesome views of the surrounding countryside.

I found stage 1 for this one quite a while ago, last fall I think it was. Then, they closed the canyon and I never made it back up. Well, I just realized that the canyon has been open for several months and summer was slipping past me so I organized a backpacking trip with my girls so we could go up and finish this one plus a couple others by you that require some extra time and effort. We had a great time and really enjoyed the "mission" that these caches provided. Thank you for placing them.

Hopped over to this one after finding Anne's Overlook. The day was blazing sunshine, so my hiking partner and I were starting to get a little hot at this point and the water was getting low. Nice view (although we'd just seen the same view at Anne's). The cache took a few minutes to find. We took a little tin cup and left a TB proxy and a pathtag. Cache is in good shape. Thanks!

Nice view

(this log continues from Drake's dilemma...you need to go read that first) ALAS!! I found this cache. Have been here a few times before and still had the coordinate saved. I finally got another clue for Tahosa's Celtic Cross cache. I am 1 for 3 for the day which is a major bummer. HOWEVER, after entering the clue into my final coordinate for the cross, i realized something....I just narrowed my search down from 360,000 square METERS to something much much less.....i wonder....i just wonder.....could i spend the time to search high and low for the final stop of the day??

A beautiful mid-November day for hiking and caching on Crosier. That gulch is truly deep and steep! TFTC

Thanks, Tahosa, for this cache and your enduring presence on Crosier Mountain. You and your caketaker-successor, Denali41 have a respectful influence on those who follow along your big footprints on the mountain.

I was part of the Cinco de Mayo group led by Denali41 that traipsed across the mountain trails on a delightful Saturday. Thanks to my co-hikers and explorers for the great day in Roosevelt National Forest.

We have found this one on a special geo-teering hike around Tahosa's caches lead by Denali.

The first submarine gave up the clues for the second one. As with all the Tahosa's mulits this one also required some thinking and calculating.

TFTC!

Our Geo-Teering group had a great day on Crosier Mountain. We owe our thanks to Tahosa for creating so many great caches and to Denali41 for continuing the legacy. My hat's off to all who serve. I was in a different service years ago but I still use nautical miles on a regular basis. When I did some research for this cache I was surprised by how many different definitions of a mile that have been used over the years. TFTC

Found this on our Geo-Teering outing on Crosier Mountain. Another one of Tahosa's great lessons in using UTMs, maps and compasses and my first cache using nautical miles! The views from the cache site were absolutely awsome! The beautiful day and companionship of the Geo-Teering group made this a very special day that I will long remember. Thanks very much for the lesson and for bringing me to this beautiful place! SL
