The cache is a 35mm container. It is not winter friendly.
This is one of the caches in a series of caches dedicated to Fallen Flag railroads. Fallen Flags are those railroads that no longer exist either through abandonment or corporate takeover. With each cache will come a short history lesson explaining a little something about the railroad.

DSP&P are the initials of the Denver, South Park, and Pacific railroad. It was a narrow gauge line (3’ between the rails) that started life in Denver in 1874 and was headed to the mining camps in the mountains. At this point the railroad has managed to enter South Park by crossing over Kenosha Pass and passing through the town of Jefferson just a few miles up the road.

The reason that narrow gauge was chosen was to reduce the cost of construction. It is approximately 2/3 of the normal gauge, or width, between the rails and the cost savings in mountainous terrain could be substantial.

Most of the route that railroad took was anything but flat and straight. Here is a section where a little speed could be built up safely and it the inspiration for the cache name.

The roadbed is under the power poles.

I meant to stop by here on the way west, but sped right by the cache. So I stopped on my way east. Found the cache and signed the log easily enough, but then getting back out on the road needed some patience. Finally got a big break and was on my way. TFTC - #1808.

Ah, another day in the fresh air of the mountains. Started off as a cloudy, almost drizzly day in Denver. Lucky for me I broke through the clouds and into the sun. It was much cooler today than just last weekend, and a heck of a lot more cars on the road. Must be the leaf lookers as the aspens were gorgeous – bright yellow leaves against the dark green evergreens. I made it all the way to Alma – I have lots of friends in Alma, Arkansas, so I felt like if I was going to Fairplay… I could go a few more miles to Alma. Concentrated mostly on CSP caches and regular size containers, threw in a few others just for the heck of it. Made a few finds above 10,000 feet and probably shaded a few more bars in for the Colorado 360 degree challenge. Another beautiful day out and about, love where caching takes me!
