!! Exciting New Cache Series!!

“COLORADO SPIRIT QUEST”

The Colorado Spirit Quest is a series of Caches placed by many individuals, near cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of paying respect to the many pioneer ancestors that have ‘walked’ before us.

There are hundreds of cemeteries in the rural and mountain communities across Colorado.  This series will introduce you to many of them.

The cache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the cemeteries and tombstones.

COLORADO SPIRIT QUEST is not affiliated with any other ‘Spirit Quest’ group.  Special thanks and credit are given to SixDogTeam who started the Indiana Spirit Quest in 2004. The idea has rapidly spread into many states.

The CSQ endeavor is an enormous and relentless task.  It cannot be accomplished by just one or two people.  This project will only flourish if there is a multitude of volunteer cachers  willing to place these caches.

After locating the cache container, take some time to reflect back on the lives of those pioneers and the effort it took to make Colorado such a great state.

If you are interested in joining the “Walking Through History Clan” contact may be made by sending an e-mail to the owner of “Colorado Spirit Quest #1 – Mo untain Passage”.  Use the ‘Send Message” link at the center of the page of their profile.

Each person that places a CSQ cache is responsible for its maintenance.

REMEMBER:

If you are APPREHENSIVE about cemeteries – AVOID this series.

The cache container is a camoed 35mm film canister.  Since this whole area is overgrown and unkept, I could not really determine where the actual cemetery might have begun and ended. You will need to go the area of the fencing noted in the pictures to find the cache.

This cemetery contains about 6 headstones. Because the weeds were so tall, I could not determine if more markers were present or not.  As seems to be common in this part of Colorado, the land owner would set aside a portion of his land, typically at a section boundary, for use as a cemetery.  The space here is much bigger than was ever used for that purpose.

We had some business in Fort Morgan today and made a plan to cache around the Akron area. We especially enjoy Colorado Spirit Quest cemeteries and were able to visit five today. This was our fifth CSQ. The cemetery has been mowed except for a few areas so it does look a bit better. Still a sad cemetery, though. Thanks for bringing us to this historic site, Grand High Pobah!

Interestingly, there are no longer marked graves in the small fenced in area. Perhaps they have been moved to be closer to family. Tftc.

This was a sad cemetery for me. It has been recently mowed, except for two privately fenced areas. I could find four tombstones. Three were marked, and I am including a picture of the fourth. The Graves of the infants always give me a sense of loss, but thus one was even more grievous.

The description of the location of the cache is a bit off, but the cords are good. Fenced area nearest to the road.

Thanks for this series, which reminds me that life was tough for the first to settle here. Seems a flu, measles, or something similst moved across northern Colorado in the 1980s-1920s, taking especially the babies.
