!! Exciting New Cache Series!!

“COLORADO SPIRIT QUEST”

The Colorado Spirit Quest is a series of Caches placed by many individuals, near cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of paying respect to the many pioneer ancestors that have ‘walked’ before us.

There are hundreds of cemeteries in the rural and mountain communities across Colorado.  This series will introduce you to many of them.

The cache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the cemeteries and tombstones.

COLORADO SPIRIT QUEST is not affiliated with any other ‘Spirit Quest’ group.  Special thanks and credit are given to SixDogTeam who started the Indiana Spirit Quest in 2004. The idea has rapidly spread into many states.

The CSQ endeavor is an enormous and relentless task.  It cannot be accomplished by just one or two people.  This project will only flourish if there is a multitude of volunteer cachers  willing to place these caches.

After locating the cache container, take some time to reflect back on the lives of those pioneers and the effort it took to make Colorado such a great state.

If you are interested in joining the “Walking Through History Clan” contact may be made by sending an e-mail to the owner of “Colorado Spirit Quest #1 – Mo untain Passage”.  Use the ‘Send Message” link at the center of the page of their profile.

Each person that places a CSQ cache is responsible for its maintenance.

REMEMBER:

If you are APPREHENSIVE about cemeteries – AVOID this series.

The cache container is a camoed 35mm film canister.  You will not need to enter the cemetery to find the cache.

This older prairie cemetery contains about 20 headstones.  It has been known by other names, Spring Valley being one

The way to approach this cemetery is from the west.  If you are travelling north/south on US385, turn west on county road 2 which runs east/east about 2 miles north of the cache location.  Turn south on county road CC until it dead ends in about 1.5 miles at which time you will turn back to the east on the county road to get to the cache.  The road is not the best but we had no trouble on it.

Some maps show roads to the east and south of the cache location but those roads either do not exist or are closed to motorized traffic.

After a few false starts on the route to the cache (should have read the description more carefully), BugRanger and I found the right route in from the west. The road is a little dodgy in places, but still passable. The cemetery is fascinating for sure; my husband is from an old German Lutheran family in Wisconsin, and the names on the headstones (where there was one) were of a familiar sort.

As for the cache, we're sure we found its remains, but it looks as though it's been run over. We found it in two pieces, a large white pill container wrapped in camouflage tape, thoroughly flattened and ruined. No log to be seen, either. So, we put a new cache in place at GZ, because this place is just too nice not to have a cache to entice folks to come visit. TFTC!

Caching along the eastern CO prairie with EstesLynne concentrating on the CSQ caches out here. Found The remains of the cache here, so I left a replacement cache (centrifuges tubes) at GZ. Explored the cemetery grounds. Sad to see so many unknowns marked. TFTC

T F T C - - - - I’m having a great time in Colorado Geocaching and sight seeing. Staying with a good friend in Centennial. I decide to hit the flat lands for my July 4th adventure. I got a early start to avoid some of the heat.

I appreciate your efforts in placing this cache for our geocaching enjoyment. It is always a great day to be out and about geocaching. Good job! I had a fun time finding it. Once again, TFT$ LTFAHG-Like to Find and Hide Geocaches.
