Needs maintenance

The cache is near Cache Creek, just over a mile west of the village of Granite, CO. Good gravel road and short hike (less than 1/2 mile).
To approach the cache site take Hwy 24 to Granite, CO. Just south of the general store take the gravel road marked Lost Canyon Road (CR 398) west for about 1.2 miles. Then take CR 398D south to the parking area for the Granite Cemetery. On foot follow the double-track trail that starts just west of the large "Cache Creek" sign. Cache is down the trail not too far from the creek. Clear plastic box has logbook and trinkets.

Cache Creek has been the site of lots of placer mining, so take your gold pan and try some of the gravel on the creek banks! Very tiny gold flakes can often be found with good panning technique.

On your return to your vehicle, note the very interesting old cemetery.

You know you are a Geocacher when you love looking at maps and come across "Cache Creek in Lost Canyon" SO you have to go to Geocache dot com and see if there is a Cache there. I am sitting here in Ohio just looking at some maps for a side hobby/project, and laughed out loud when I saw a cache about there. brings new meaning to getting lost or losing a cache.

Beautiful area but will be a steep walk back up. Found the cache a bit exposed near what the hint indicates. We left it nearby but put a big rock on it to anchor it a bit more.

Thanks. we had a great time today in the area riding UTVs. This is a bit of a hard climb down and up for an older person, but we did it obviously.

A nice area for a drive / hike. We had never driven on Lost Canyon Rd before. Great area with a nice selection of caches along the way. We left a key chain with pink boxing gloves to celebrate 20 year cancer survivor and army man to honor our nephew serving in the army. TFTC

Please refer to our "Found It" log of 6/4/16. Found this where it did not seem it should be. I am 90% sure it is back where it belonged, but wanted to verify with you. I have photos of before and after if you want to see, or please contact me......

Found it with geo-sidekick, I guess we were the first for the year. Nice stroll to get there with beautiful view. One hitch - and I am trying not to give away any spoilers - we found this in good shape, but out in the open about 10' away from where the hint suggests. Did not make sense, so we put back it back in the area described by the hint. We will send a maintenance request to make sure we have not upset the CO. TFTC!

SORRY that I didn't realize earlier the cache had been vandalized/removed. My wife and I replaced the cache with a new container, log book, trinkets, and foreign coins this morning - October 9, 2015. Eventually it will be covered with snow off and on during the winter, but I think weather will be fine for a month or more.

Day 2 of our 4 day trip around Colorado. Started this morning in Colorado Springs , drove to Buena Vista, up thru Leadville and ended in Frisco for the night. Another day of perfect weather. High 70s and sunny most of the day but cooled off a lot early evening. Brief shower (during which we ate a sandwich). Beautiful beautiful country - especially enjoyed parts that were new to us. Can't wait for tomorrow !!

Did not realize this cache had not been found for a long time. We searched for a long time, think we turned over every rock. At last we were chased away by the mosquitoes.
