Cowboy had a good McNab border collie, Banjo, which could track anything if he had a good scent trail. The local Search and Rescue would often call Cowboy to come and help on searches. One cold winter Cowboy was notified by the Mancos Search and Rescue to help find a small cabin that was covered in snow by an avalanche in the La Plata Mountains. The cabin was the home of the Bradford family. The avalanche had completely covered the house but Cowboy knew it was built strong and deep into the side of a rock cliff. He knew anyone inside could survive if they did not run out of oxygen. Time was of the essence; AND Cowboy's girlfriend, Debbie was inside. Cowboy had a blanket that Debbie had made for him so he grabbed it and raced to the site. He gave the blanket to Banjo and told the command to "FIND". Banjo took off over the rugged terrain of snow and stopped abruptly. He crouched down signaling this was the location. The rescuers ran to the site and started digging. They soon found the roof of the cabin and then the door and got the occupants out. Debbie ran up to Cowboy and gave him a strong embrace and kiss saying "Cowboy, you saved me and my family. How can I ever repay you?" Cowboy said "I could not live without you". Cowboy and Debbie got married the next Spring.
