"FRIENDSHIP, CHARITY and BENEVOLENCE". The primary object of fraternal organizations is to promote friendship among men and to relieve suffering. The Order of Knights of Pythias is a great international fraternity which was founded in Washington, DC, February 19, 1864, by Justus H. Rathbone. It bases its lessons and builds it ritual largely on the familiar story of the friendship of Damon and Pythias, who were historical characters living about four hundred or more years before the beginning of the Christian era. They were members of a school, founded by Pythagoras, who was known as the father of Greek philosophy. Damon had opposed the pretensions of the king of Syracuse, who had gained the throne by fraud, and as a result he was condemned to death. Pythias became a hostage for Damon, while the latter was permitted his liberty to bid his wife and child goodbye. Each was willing to die to save the other's life. Their loyalty to each other, the adventures that beset them, and the outcome of this noble friendship, form the basis for one of the most beautiful stories of history.("The Pythians Website") photo ColoradoSpiritQuestLogo15inchlogo.jpg

! The Exciting Cache Series!

“COLORADO SPIRIT QUEST”

REMEMBER:

If you are APPREHENSIVE about cemeteries – AVOID this series.

The Colorado Spirit Quest is a series of Caches placed by many individuals, near cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of paying respect to the many pioneer ancestors that have ‘walked’ before us.

If you are interested in being a part of this project, contact may be made by sending an e-mail to the owner of “Colorado Spirit Quest #1 – Mountain Passage”.  Use the ‘Send Message” link at the center of the page of their profile.

There are hundreds of cemeteries in the rural and mountain communities across Colorado.  This series will introduce you to many of them.

The cache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the cemeteries and tombstones.

The CSQ endeavor is an enormous and relentless task and will only flourish if there is a multitude of volunteer cachers  willing to place these caches.

After locating the cache container, take some time to reflect back on the lives of those pioneers and the effort it took to make Colorado such a great state.

Each person that places a CSQ cache is responsible for its maintenance.

Thanks to the volunteers: Greasepot, Taylorgeotracker, Ivy Dog Parents, Team Boogity3, Grand High Pobah, Boborr 80909, Imusttravel2000, Buzz Lightyear I, Sandhill 49er, MrVolkswagen, Isisfan, Rockymtn8iv, Fork-L-Man, Outdrlvr201, Condor1, 2Cachedivers, arthurat, smilz787, Kyotmoon, Mountain Roamer, SugarPug, Team Tiger Pride, ernie66, drnetwork, Team w-bar-v, Dynamite Rabbit, DustyKat, mtnbirders, RustyBeerCan & Marma, grymreaper, nteclpr, Moose1 & Mama Moose, Joe Friday, 3cacheteers, 3cacheteers, Dasha Aussies, KB0UMW, hiking_fool, tripping, res71cue and 1Mrs1Ogre, and nickgatt, kingbee, The misgnoners, rbradu, shashyaz&foxy, Bugranger, Lyonden ut., Any Direction, Sewnssew, The Meandering Monkeys, Charlie-n-Geri, skibum1, gooftroop 4, stubywwjd, MaDDoGGaming, kingbee, Wolverine, Random Acts, lbmiller, BTBugs, God chaser, imcasey, lesslost2, Back Country Horseman and Kaiwarrior.

Today I came up to the western part of town (the mountains west of me) to grab an FTF. While there, I couldn't resist continuing caching. I ended up northwest of Central City in the cold (32 degrees) with some snow still on the ground from a minor storm several days ago.
The first stage container is awesome. Then, at stage two, I was able to enter a gate and avoid a long walk in the dark. No problem with the final which is in great shape and the log is "bone" dry. Muahahaha. TFTC!

I wanted to get out of Denver, beat the heat and maybe avoid seeing any snakes. What to do, what to do? I hadn't been to Gilpin County yet and a friend had just posted pictures from Central City. Why not! And off I go...

I parked at one of the cemeteries and then realized the first stage was out by the main road. So... I walked on over to the first stage, taking pictures of flowers along the way. Luckily the next stage wasn't too far. I headed that way and a couple with a dog had just arrived. They took off in the direction of Stage 2. Darn it! I headed off to find another cache and when I got back they were gone. Found Stage 2 no problem and got the log signed. Thanks for the multi! Find #2498.

I ended up on an epic adventure with yellowdogs and jREST. I really wanted to go and find GC19. So, I picked a five day stretch to make my attempt. I roped in a couple of caching friends into the misadventure and we were off with my two geodogs. The five of us made an interesting group. We drove over 3000 miles on the trip going out and back. Since we enjoy the same types of caches it was easy to come up with a list. We target the three main kinds of caches: oldies, virtuals, and earthcaches. We threw in a few others mainly to grab a cache in the 72 counties we headed through. Really got to light up that county map. Ended up with 152 caches in the found pile.

The first night was a little rough. We got a late start and headed into some heavy rain. We already had a hotel reserved in Sioux City, IA; so we knew we had to get there. Found one cache to fill the day in for me. The first day was spent caching our way across northern Nebraska. We had a line of counties that we wanted to grab. Some pretty country once you get further west. It is always nice to see the varied topography of the states we visit. After finding 35 caches, we called it a night in Scotts Bluff.
Day 2 dawned sunny, but cool. We wanted to get past Denver, but our route was longer than anticipated. So we ended up a little short. Got to see some interesting spots though. We hit the high point in Nebraska, cached along a lonely stretch of highway in Colorado, picked up some virtuals in the Denver area, before heading into the mountains for the Cache Across America. We continued exploring the mountains before finding a place to sleep for the night west of Denver.

On the third day, we made it into Denver after some virtuals and then headed south through the mountains to GC 19. We made it. The road was open and the weather perfect. Lots of warnings about the fire danger. We picked up a few other caches and even took a detour into New Mexico so yellowdogs could light up the state. Nice. I love it when a plan comes together.

Day 4 found us in Trinidad. We had a long way to go and a short time to get there. Luckily, at this point the route was pretty straight forward. We headed north roughly to Nebraska. We did take a detour to grab GC31. I already had it, but we were too close not to add it to the list. We ended up caching longer than anticipated due to a lack of sleeping options. Finally found a place in Thedford.

Our last day was short and to the point. We had a line of counties between us and the Iowa border and we wanted to find a cache in each of them. We found one or two caches in each of them before hitting the border at noon. Right on schedule After that, it was just a matter of beating feet home.

Thanks to all the COs that placed or created a cache for us to find on this trip. Without you, we would not have found have the interesting places we ended up. I couldn't think of a better way to spend vacation. We used our Team Barcelona stamp to mark all the physical logs.

Fun little multicache. We ended up here grabbing a new county. We needed a multicache in Colorado, so we added this one to the list. We ended up finding both stages pretty quickly. All is well here. Fun little people gardens.
