Wanted to put a cache near one of Colorado's most photographed historic sites.

Due to the state of the road, the ONLY way to this cache is by high-clearance, 4-wheel-drive vehicle. We're serious about this. Do not attempt this cache without a suitable 4WD. Additionally, the cache site is accessible only during the summer months.
Due to the trees and canyon walls, the waypoint may be somewhat off. We took 5 readings and averaged them. This should get you close. Use the hint to find the exact location.

You're looking for a camo'd Altoids tin with a log. Bring your own writing instrument.

Be sure to bring your camera/video equipment. The cache is a micro, but the reward is in the scenery, and once you've gotten to the cache, you will want to take home pictures.

Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the area. A few hundred feet further down the road is the town of Crystal. While you're there you may want to take in some of the local history.

There are areas to camp along the road approaching the cache as well as just past Crystal. We love to put up a tent and spend some time here, and you may want to as well.

Enjoy!

What a trip!! it took us an hour to go the 5 miles in, and almost 90 minutes to get out. Hikers, ATVers, and other 4WD people all over the place. Many of the ATVers and some of the 4WD people had rentals and no concept of how to navigate a rough, single lane road and the courtesies involved.

Once at teh mill, there is now a "restraining cable" with No Tresspassing posted beyond it. To find the cache, there is no need to cross this barrier. Also, the coords are off by about 8 ft to the west. (HINT HINT)

Thanks for the fun trip and cache.

Out for a couple weeks of camping and made a rather large list of caches I wanted to try and get. This one made the list. Wasn't to sure if I would find it after reading some of the past logs and it turns out that I came up empty after looking at all the spots that went with the hint. So I replaced the Altoids tin with another one with a bit of camo paint on it. You may want to look for it West and about 8 ft from the base of the large rock, that is in the hint. You get a fav point for this one. TFTC SL

Sorry for the late log! We headed to Redstone this weekend, with the goal of doing some 4-wheeling, particularly to Crystal City.

This was one of the goals of the 4-wheeling outing. We went up and around through Lead King Basin then down into Crystal. That last mile down to the Schofield Pass / Crystal road was a bit rough for a beginner in a new Cherokee. I think I put a couple of dings in my skid plates.

Favorite for the great location. However, it was full of water and the container needs to be replaced.

Signed the log KAJW. Took nothing. Left nothing. Thanks for the cache!

Was lucky enough to stay in Crystal for a week. Hiked and biked and roamed all over. No cell service here but scouted this out in advance and after a short ranging a couple of times on my second day there made the find. Wet log in there and semi-dry one which I signed. Beautiful site. I saw the mill from both sides during my stay and picked up a book and hiked Crystal Peak! Thanks for putting a cache here!! TFTC!
