Welcome to Night Eyes at Blodgett Peak!  This is a nighttime cache that requires the use of a powerful flashlight. Begin at the posted coordinates and follow the reflectors.

Before you begin, a few tips/warnings:

  • This cache takes place in the Blodgett Peak Open Space area. If you are not familiar with this area, please make sure that take the time to explore during the daytime before attempting this cache.  You will find that you enter into a forested area very quickly.
  • Do not allow yourself to get lost.  Be aware of your surroundings and the direction you are heading.  If in doubt, use your GPS to lead you back to the intial starting point.
  • The trail is steep. Make sure you are in good shape for this endeavor.
  • The round trip walking mileage of this cache is about 1.5 miles.
  • This area is very much in the wilderness.  It can get very dark and feel secluded.
  • There is wildlife in this area.  The cache earned its name after I shined my flashlight into a dark area and witnessed five sets of eyes staring back at me.  I quietly retreated and came back another night!  Be alert and be smart!
  • Always travel with a group.  A lot could go wrong in the dark.
  • The Blodgett Peak Open Space parking lot is small and secluded.  Be sure to lock your vehicle and secure all valuables before entering the open space area.

If you still ready to brave Night Eyes at Blodgett Peak, then you will begin at the posted coordinates. This is located about a quarter mile in from the parking lot.  When you arrive at this point, you will shine your flashlight and find the reflectors.  Think of this as a connect the dots experiment.  You will go from one dot to the next. Sometimes the next reflector will be very easy to see from the trail.  Other times, you may need to get right next to the current reflector and shine out to find the next one.  There are a total of 18 reflector stops.  The final stop will have four reflectors alerting you that this is the final destination and the cache is hidden in this spot.  From here you could choose to backtrack back or take the main trail down from this point.  The hint below will tell you which trails you will take if you would like to see it.

 Hints

You will begin on Blodgett Trail. After getting the first few reflectors, you will go on to Peregrine Trail. This will take you up to the water tower and back on to Blodgett Trail. The actual cache is hidden off of Blodgett Trail. It is a micro container and should be located right at the four reflector tree. After you obtain it, you can take Blodgett Trail back down to the parking lot.

They are doing/have done a lot of wildfire fuel mitigation in the area but most of the tags (from what I can tell) are still intact. I have a night cache in Missouri so I was curious to see this setup while I was in the area. I refrained from finding the final. I'll return some night to knock this one out.

Second night cache this week. Cold night but crisp for a walk. I didn't count 18 reflectors with a long distance between #1 & #2 before setting into the right routine of finding them. Good D/T for the stats.

This is an awesome gem. Great night cache, even used it to convert a muggle into a geocacher! He thought geocacheing was totally different! Great little hike.

My son and daughter wanted to come along for this one. It is now their favorite cache. We got there a little early, then we found the first and the second and they ran the whole way. Thanks for that special time together. SL

18 reflectors eh? I think we found half of those, but they are so well placed that we were still able to follow the trail. Thanks for the cache.

Picked up the refector trail in the middle and followed it to the end. Fun cache, thanks!

TFTC! Deserves a favorite point. Shaninjawarrior and I were finishing up a multi up here after dark, and decided to grab this one on the way. On our way up, I think we might've passed Gampa and Gamma on their way down from the cache haha! It was dark when we passed them, and we thought that they were muggles. The cache is missing a few reflectors near the beginning. We lost the trail because of this, but we were luckily heading that way anyways and picked it back up. The final was about a tenth of a mile from our multi final, which was awesome! On the way back, we were able to locate one of the missing reflectors and fix it, but there might be a few more missing.
