RocketMan, David, Jessie and I decided to do Moody Hill and Crystal Mountain Trails with the good ol' Rubicons. After playing around in the Quarry, we made our way to Crystal Mountain.

What a view!

This is a cache that will require 4x4, OHV, dirtbike, or good old fashioned hiking to get to. What you choose will decide on if you can get to the cache. The day that we went, we had rain and it very much made the conditions tougher. A standard SUV will NOT make this trail. There are also some side trails that can divert you from going straight to the summit.
This is a decon container with a log sheet. Please bring your own pen/pencil. Trade small items/Travel Bugs. Please be aware of placing TB's/coins that this trail is open only a few months out of the year. I will TRY to get any TB's/coins from the cache before the trail closes but I cannot promise. Remember, caching is about the adventure, not the trinkets. Your trek to this cache will be an adventure. We promise!

I decided to do a little caching up Crystal Mountain today. I drove up to 5-points and parked by the winter closure gate. Then I started hiking. After about a mile of hiking I came upon a locked gate at the boundary between Forest Service and State Trust Land. There were signs up that said the Trust Land had been leased for private interests. So since I couldn't follow the road up to the peak, I attacked it head on and bushwhacked up the mountain, all the way to the top. I found the container and discovered that one (or more) of the local denizens had been chewing on the decon and there is now a hole about the size of a dime in the side of it. They also chewed the rim of the lid and it doesn't snap on anymore. I retrieved the log and it was damp so I unfolded it and tried to dry it out. I was able to sign the log, the first signature in over 5 years, the last log was from before the High Park Fire in 2012! I didn't have a replacement container with me so I re-hid it as best I could to try and keep water out of it. Based on the cache page write-up vs. my experience, it appears getting to the cache is much more difficult these days and it's likely to have fewer visitors each year than it used to. Thanks RocketMan, David, Jessie, and zoltig for placing this one!!!

Greetings,
We too stumbled upon this but were happy to do so since at the time we were lamenting having forgotten to look up caches along the tail. TFTC!

Found this yesterday (8/25/2012) on a 4wd run. Wasn't looking for it, but it was a nice surprise!! My first geocache!

I have done this 4WD road many times. It is my favorite road. I must confess. I was not originally geocaching. I was four wheeling. While standing at a certain spot, I saw what I thought to be a "cache". I reached down, picked it up and it was a cache. So, I signed it and put it back. But, this time, I hid it a little better than when I found it. I did not notice any trade toys. But, hey! Like you said, "It is the journey." You are so correct. Sign only.

2:00pm. Nice drive up to this one! Found cache after a bit of lookin'! We hadn't looked at previous logs and RDAD seemed to think it was in a different spot than when he found it last year. Turns out he was right! TN-LN-SL. Thanx for the good time Z......Tony.
