In 1987 Pyramid Rock was selected as a Designated Natural Area by the Colorado Natural Areas Program (CNAP). It includes 515 acres of clay and sandstone that is home to the following rare plants:

Sclerocactus glaucus (Uinta Basin hookless cactus)

Phacelia submutica (Debeque phacelia)

Astragalus debequae(Debeque milkvetch)
