This 'cache and dash' honors the joy between children and trains. As you head west from Ted's Place towards Poudre Canyon, this cache is 2.7 miles up the canyon from the cattleguard. Just around the bend from mile marker 118, pull over in front of the metal gate on your right and park.
Looking north you'll see what the locals call "Hole in the Wall". This hole was actually a tunnel that was punched through the ridge in 1881 by the Greeley, Salt Lake & Pacific Railway. This is about as far up the canyon as the proposed railway got before plans to build a railroad up and over the top of Poudre Canyon were abandoned.

In the early 1900's, the tunnel was daylighted (top removed) to allow equipment to lay a water pipe from the old Fort Collins Water Treatment Plant to Fort Collins.

This is the easiest of our 'Nature Bats Last' series. The cache has lots of toys to swap for the youngin's. You do not have to cross the fence...have fun!

A fun quick find on this one! Was the type of day I could use at least one easy one in the mix, and this one fit nicely. I wasn't aware of the history of the area either in the regards to the hole in the wall, so it was neat reading about that. Thanks! An extremely classic container, doing its job perfectly, and well stocked to boot. Can't beat that. Great day to be up the canyon as well, so thanks for adding another smile to the trip. TFTC|SL

So nice to see a regular cache, 9 years old, in such good condition. Found quickly by Pedro, who loved looking through all the swag. In the end, he took a car and left a minifig. Nice cache.

#8 of 8 today caching our way up to Gateway Natural Area. SL TFTC!

I wandered from Kimball Nebraska to Eagle Colorado today and never was on interstate. In fact I drove about 70 miles on dirt road, or I should say muddy road as it rained lightly for most of the day. Along the way I found 38 caches including my first cache in five different counties. I now have found a cache in all counties in Wyoming, my fifth complete county state.
No problems with this one. No muggle traffic as I found and signed the log.
Thanks for the fun!
