"A Penny saved is a penny earned"- Benjamin Franklin

The penny is regarded as useless. Almost no one uses them today, and they sit lying around, waiting to be used. Luckily, you'll have to use pennies to find this cache. At each waypoint (including the posted coordinates) you will find a penny covered by a rock. To get the answer you are looking for, add up the dates on all three pennies. No commas. Good Luck:)

I'm a sucker for a multi cache. I found four of them today. This was the hardest one.
I spent a really long time looking for the first penny, to the point where I almost gave up. I sent a message to the owner to get a hint or something, and headed off to see if I could find the other pennies and hoped to hear from the owner in the meantime.
I had no problem finding the second and third pennies, so I went back to look for the first one again.
Didn't find it again. So I decided to brute force the checker, but you have to wait 10 minutes after every 10 tries. So while waiting the first 10 minutes I decided to venture further down the trail to the next cache. Found that one and then attempted to crack the checker again. After 10 more guesses I had to wait another 10 minutes. I finally got the checker to give me the answer to the final after 28 guesses.
While I was walking back from the cache down the trail, I heard back from the CO and noticed they changed the coords. So I took another closer look in that area. I had already looked there before. I turned over every stone. It's crazy the kind of bugs and spiders that live under rocks. But I saw no signs of that first penny anywhere.
It did rain recently. Maybe the sand/dirt under the rock shifted and buried the penny. I did scrape the dirt under most of the rocks with a stick to no avail.
I was surprised that the final was so far away. By the time I finally got ink on paper, it was more than 2 hours after I started the hike. That was a long hike/drive for one smiley. And that's what I love about geocaching.

Thank you Awoostan for placing and maintaining "A Penny Saved is a Penny Earned" for me to find and log. Saturday July 27, 2024 6:26 PM

So sorry to everyone who got the solution checker wrong. I got some of the digits mixed up. It should be all good to go now.

FTF!

I had other things planned for today, so I had to squeeze it in with the time I had.

It just made cents to go for it.

Thanks for the fun of the hunt!
