One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is a 1962 novel written by Ken Kesey (1935 - 2001), a La Junta, Colorado native. Set in an Oregon psychiatric hospital, the narrative serves as a study of the institutional processes and the human mind in reaction to those processes. Additionally, the novel offers a critque of behaviorism while celebrating humanistic principles. The plot revolves around the power struggle between inmate Randle Patrick McMurphy, and the head administrative nurse, Mildred Ratched. Ratched rules the ward with an iron fist and with little medical oversight. The book’s release in 1962 coincided with growing changes to psychology, psychiatry, and the growing deinstitutionalization movement; which still has health and political implications today. Despite its increasing obscurity, the novel has established a number of tropes that are common in contemporary literature and film. Time Magazine included the work in its "100 Best English-language Novels from 1923 to 2005" list. In 2003 the book was listed on the BBC's The Big Read poll of the UK's 200 "best-loved novels." The novel was adapted into a 1963 play, starring Kirk Douglas but is best known for the 1975 film adaptation starring Jack Nicholson. The film went on to win five Academy Awards.

Despite its critical acclaim, the work is considered one of America's most highly challenged and banned novels. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is ranked 49 on the American Library Association list of top 100 challenged books in the United States (meaning attempts to get it banned). Reasons for this status varies; but some have cited the edgy content, provocative language, and direct tackling of sensitive social issues.
Cache Overview
This is a 3 stage (posted, stage 2, final) multi-cache. An actual “to standard” multi-cache…no puzzles, no tricks, or (clutch the pearls) no special tools that might drive you crazy. Please note the listed attributes. BYOP.

The posted coordinates will take you to the starting point where you will begin the hunt. There are a number of parking and route options to get to the posted coordinates. The posted parking coordinates provide one option that places your vehicle in a location where local traffic and residents are the least likely to drive you crazy.

The cache design intended for the hardest hide to come first, followed by progressively easier hides at stage 2 and the final. I wouldn’t want to drive you crazy by having geocachers invest the effort to find the first two stages, only to DNF at the end. Be prepared for some GPS degradation at stage 2. There are no easy answers, so don’t go crazy. Good luck on the hunt.
