It was fall and the weather was cold and windy. Cowboy was decorating his ranch house.  His friend, Charlie, had stopped by for a chat.  They were near the fireplace sipping some hot coffee.  Charlie looked up and spied an elk rack and remarked, “Dang Cowboy, is that puny elk rack the best that you can do?  I though you was a good hunter”.  The remarks stuck in Cowboy’s craw.

Cowboy set out on a mission to get a large elk before winter set in.  Cowboy started asking around and found out that a huge loner bull elk lived around Red Meadows.  The bull was reported to be very wily and at the first sight or smell of a man or horse the bull would plunge into the thickest cover he could find and hide out until the coast was clear.  Cowboy had a plan.  He took all his clothes and wrapped them into an elk hide to hide his smell.  The next day he rode to a high ridge near Red Meadows and watched for the bull to appear.  Then Cowboy tied up his horse and walked over two miles to the feeding elk while staying down wind.  He carried his 1874 Sharps 50 cal. rifle.  Crawling along using the elk skin as cover he closed to within shooting range  and squeezed off a shot.  The bull dropped in the spot.  Cowboy took the elk to his ranch, dined on the elk meat and used the elk horn mount over his fireplace.  It was a Monarch 8-point monster rack.  Charlie came over to see Cowboy.  When Charlie walked in the living room he spied the monster rack hanging on the wall.  Charlie’s jaw dropped and he was speechless.  Cowboy slapped Charlie on the back and said, “Now let’s see if you can top that one”.

The cache is a large black camo container full of SWAG and with a FTF prize

From parking to GZ was a trek through tall, dry grass ... with our little toy aussie dog picking up thousands of grass seed in his long fur. OMG ... & we left his brush/comb/etc. in our other vehicle. That means a stop at Walmart to get the necessities before going on with our caching trip. Oh well, we trudged on to GZ & made a quick find to sign the log ... might as well log this one since he's already covered with those clingy things. Mrs TE said to tell you (& Cowboy) that she is not too happy with your placement on this one. Ha Ha. Thanks Mick for adding to our fun today. TwoElkers

Another Sunday outing, geocaching with the family—sure are nice views out here! Just a heads up —the cache is a little soggy on the inside. Thanks for the cache!
