From the time when kids had to walk uphill both way to school. There was dozens of country schools across the county ensuring that no kid had to walk more than 3 miles

The Laird District was formed in 1887. The area was still part of Washington County at this time. The first school house was located in the Northwest corner of town. At some time school was moved to the building just to the east of this block building. in 1908 the block school that you are standing in front of was built. School was held here till the early 20's when consolidation started and another school was built on the east edge of town
