A few months back I was doing some maintenance on one of my more remote caches here: GC8D32C. For years there was an Old Timer who had a small mining claim up there. Upon my last visit I noticed that he must have moved on because all of his belongings and equipment were gone. After inspecting the claim, I discovered an old dented coffee can buried in the debris, on the side of the can I observed the initials L.I.D.. I retrieved the can and dusted it off, excited as to what could possibly be inside. Once opened, I discovered a damp, dank, musty piece of old brown parchment. As I sat in the sun and dried out the skin, much to my surprise it looks like somebody’s treasure map! I have stared at that map every day since, and SHOCKINGLY cannot seem to make heads or tails out of it! The only thing I could make out was a faint name of the back of the map: Lorenzo Ignacio Dimitriov. I have no clue who Lorenzo is or was, but I sure would like to know where his Map of Mystery will lead!
The hike is 3.5 miles round trip. Adequate footwear, water and snacks are recommended. The first 1/3rd of the trail is a gradual climb, the second 1/3rd is steeper, along with rock-strewn switch backs. The final 1/3rd is relativley flat as you approach the meadow. . After 1.5 miles (See Reference Point) you will leave the main trail and follow a social trail North through the Aspen meadow to GZ. Enjoy the adventure, I look forward to what you find.
