This is Cache 4 of a 14 cache series with the theme of fun, learning, and “higher” education. It is a fun way to experience some beautiful landscapes and places as well as have fun, learn, and maybe even challenge yourself a little. Caches can be done in any order (with exception of 5th grade, 8th grade, and 12th grade). You will need to be observant because there will be clues that you will need if you choose to continue your education!

Cache is NOT at listed Coordinates

Welcome to Higher Education – Third Grade Science Jeopardy

This cache is the 4th cache in the series "Higher Education." There will be 14 different caches in the series that will follow the grades from Kindergarten to 12th grade - with a bonus cache if you graduate high school and go to “College.”

If you chose to further your education - you will have a special cache at grades 5th, 8th, and 12th grades - each of these caches will need clues from the previous caches in order to solve them.

For example: to complete Grade 5 you will need information from grades K-5. To complete grade 8 you will need information from K-8. To complete Grade 12 you will need information from K-12. So keep your eyes open to the clues and make sure to write them all down! Happy hunting & learning!!!

Each grade will get progressively more challenging and exciting!
You can do the individual caches (with exclusion of 5, 8, 12) in any order.

In your quest (if you chose to undertake it) will open your minds and your hearts to a beautiful location that is very dear to me. You should see some breath taking sights many people will never see.

“Third Grade Science Jeopardy”

CONGRATULATIONS to sleuthers for being FTF!!! Smart Thinking!!

One of the big achievements in  3rd grade is that students are no longer “learning to read” but instead are “reading to learn.” This is a huge shift for students and some students really struggle with the change, especially if they do not have a strong reading foundation. Third graders get into some in-depth learning where they have to be able to read about complex science topics. This puzzle cache is just a small piece of what 3rd graders have to learn in science.

Just like at regular school you will need your own writing tool!

Since the theme is Science Jeopardy, I thought it would be fun and light-hearted to share your favorite science concept, project, or activity you or a child you know participated in. It is optional - but thought it would be a fun way to connect with other geocachers. Humor is always appreciated.

One memory I have of science in school was building my own volcano. It was for a science project we had to complete. I worked so long and hard on that volcano and I was so very proud of it! Here is a picture of me and my volcano!

Your first task in this learning adventure is to find all the answers to the science jeopardy. Write the answers in the boxes provided. You should bring this with you as well – you will need it.

The waypoint will hold the clues you need in order to find the cache.

When you get to the waypoint and cache areas, it is important to use stealth when discovering the treasures that lay within the cache! Clues are abundant.

You will need to TWO special tools at the waypoint to decipher the clues to the cache. Check the attributes and you also need the CodeWheel.

PLEASE return everything in the places you found it. It is important to return any and all clues to their proper places so they do not get ruined and others behind you can use them. THANK YOU!!!!

After you figure the puzzle out at the way-point

You can check your answers for this puzzle on GeoChecker.com.

This cache is a little more challenging then the previous caches! Enjoy!
At the way-point the terrain is very steep for about 10 feet. Please be careful.
There will be special gift of for FTF!
I look forward to reading your logs and sharing in your joy as you experience this wonderful place!

Enjoy the surroundings. Take care of each location. Be careful not to leave any evidence that you have come.
Extreme caution should be taken so as not to arouse the suspicion of the surrounding muggles. Muggles going to and from work can cause some trouble. Take a moment and enjoy the hidden treasures around you.

If you have any questions – or concerns – Please email us. I want this to be the best caching series ever – and I know I have steep competition as I love thematic cache series. I love the series’ by The Green Cat & Snuggly Kitten I have been very inspired by them and hope the geocachers who experience my caches have as much fun as I had exploring theirs!

Managed to finish this one off with a little help on one of the first puzzle questions. Which if I was in third grade I would say, no, that's not exactly right. Got to WP1 and found re;placement info in good shape, then on to the final. Trusted GPS after a couple of minutes and climbed over that way. Then quickly saw a good hiding spot. Saw extra cache series clues, but unable to record information without a trip back to the car. sl thanks for this one.

I had to go to Boulder today and pick up a couple items so I decided to drive a little further south and try to finish out this cache. I had tried to find it almost three years ago but I couldn't decipher the information in the first stage and gave up. Since then, jasperdakota was successful in completing the cache and replaced the info in Stage 1. So I was confident I'd be able to get the smiley today.

Today I returned to the first stage location and found the new container. With the new clue I quickly decoded it and had the final coordinates. Then I drove to the parking spot near the cache. It did take a little bit for my GPS to settle down due to the terrain but once it did, I found the cache fairly quickly. Opened it up to find a log with only two signatures on it so I signed it as the 3rd to find! Thanks diceybear for developing this challenging cache and thanks jasperdakota for performing the very much needed maintenance!!!

STF! Managed to decipher the first waypoint. Repaired and replaced it so that it is easily readable. It is a simple code. The code wheel (link is broken) is not needed.

The final is in great shape. Picked up TB. SL.

The CO no longer lives in Colorado. I offered to adopt and maintain this series, but have not received a reply from the CO.

I'm taking some time this winter to solve many puzzle caches. I planned to work on this one, but saw the long-ago note by icezebra11that indicates the cache has a significant problem that precludes a seeker from reaching the final. Please take the time to get this corrected, so cachers have a chance to find this great puzzle. Otherwise, the cache should be archived. Thanks for taking care of this, DiceyBear!

I passed the third grade exam and obtained geochecker success a few weeks ago. Today I went to the coordinates and found the container but unfortunately the information inside was no longer legible so I could not decipher the clue. The information needs to be replaced. Until then, there is no way to complete this cache. This one will go on my watch list as it is a neat cache and I'm looking forward to completing it. Hopefully DiceyBear will be able to do the necessary maintenance soon.
