This area started as a joint district with Phillips County. In 1908 the people of Yuma County voted to form their own district. District 28 was formed. About 1913 a new school house was build of cement to discourage the continuous moving of the school as was happening in other districts. The district was rather large and the school was located at the extreme northern edge of the district. This didn't sit well will the people in the southern part of the district who had to travel a considerable distance to the school. A second school was build called Prairie Valley. Around 1931 the school house was moved and now called the Thomas school. The old well pad is still visible

In the 40's there was an emergency military airstrip located across the center of the section running just to the south of the school location
