Family-freindly hike on an interesting trail near the Continental Divide
This cache is hidden about 2 miles out on the fairly-flat family-friendly Flume Trail (say that 5 times fast) at Hoosier Pass. It is also accessible in winter as the trail is popular cross-country ski and snowshow route.

The trail basically follows the route of an old water flume, so you'll be walking at the bottom of an earthen ditch and on a large iron water pipe in the summer. In the winter, these may not be as obvious, but unless you are first on the trail after a snow, you should have ski tracks to follow.

We placed this cache in memory of dear friends Gary Alflen and Stacy Dahl, whom we lost in 2002. The name refers to a missing memorial stone we originally placed on the summit of Silverheels. This cache is intended to replace that stone. The name has nothing to do with the location of the cache.

The container is an ammo box, and originally had a log book, small photo book (please don't take), and some items to trade.

IMPORTANT: To access the Flume Trail, park at the obvious lot at the top of Hoosier Pass (continental divide). You'll have to walk across Route 9 to the East side, so BE CAREFUL. Traffic can be moving fast across this pass. Once on the other side, go through the gate and begin to walk up the jeep trail. In summer you'll notice the flume (big ditch) on your left, and if you want, you can go ahead and begin hiking in it.

Otherwise after a very short distance, there is a wooden trail sign. At this sign turn left (North) and walk through the trees until you come to the obvious flume trail. Turn right and just follow the trail. When you reach Cornice Creek, you are close.

Take time to enjoy the fantastic scenery and peaceful quiet on this unique trail that our friends loved so much.

There is a First To Find card game for the first cacher to find.

XC Skied out the Flume trail and found this cache (with a little digging). It's still here and in great shape if anyone is looking for a little Winter adventure

I'd never been on this trail before, so I enjoyed the nice walk and chance at some knee rehab - thanks!

Out XC skiing on the Flume trail and decided to check in on this cache. It's there and in good condition. Looks like folks are visiting it on a somewhat regular basis even though they're not logging visits on the web site.

Out for a XC ski and decided to check on this one. It's there and in great shape, though we had to dig in the snow a bit to get it.

Decided to hike the flume trail and see if our little-visited cache was still there. It's there and in good shape. Winter is coming, but there's still some time to hike out there for this one. Won't be long before this requires snowshoes or XC skis though.
