This is a good spot to see two of the reservoirs on the south slope of Pikes Peak. Even though reservoirs 4 and 5 (Mason and McReynolds) are on public land controlled by Colorado Springs, the city utilities department does not allow you to go near them. All together, the seven reservoirs on the south slope currently supply less than 20% of the city's water, but the department fears human intrusion will cause contamination in the water supply. In fact, this cache location is about as far as you can go. Enjoy the beautiful view from here! Update: 2016 - The South Slope Recreation Area is finally open to the public on weekends in the Summer time. You do have to purchase a permit and there is limited parking if you want to drive in.

Had a great time hiking with a group of awesome ladies. This was our 4th find of 4. We did some serious 4-wheeling today and it was great.

Hi - I spent the day 'explor-imenting' by truck around the region south of Pike's, & up Old Stage Rd to get more familiar with trailheads; FS road numbers; Mtn peak names; etc. I took the gpsr (well- loaded with caches) & two different Pike Natn'l Forest maps too. Fall aspens were very nice where they still held leaves; traffic was quite low, and the weather got gradually better as the day wore on!

I moved the truck just a little from where I parked for 'Wilderness...' and walked over here just 'cause the day was turning so nice. One lonely cloud off to the south was beginning to rattle some thunder now & then... but I think it was just reminiscing over the bygone summer days! I really like walking in among those pines with all the great character !! What a site you've got here! All of 379 had seemed extremely freshly graded... & sure enough down at the wide area on 376 just below the reservoir gates the guy was finishing strapping down the 'dozer onto a big ol' flatbed. He affirmed he had just spent two days working the road all the way from the junction below Frosty Park. Quite a job maneuvering that rig up here, methinks!
