!! Exciting New Cache Series!!

"COLORADO SPIRIT QUEST"

The Colorado Spirit Quest is a series of Caches placed by many individuals, near cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of paying respect to the many pioneer ancestors that have 'walked' before us.

There are hundreds of cemeteries in the rural and mountain communities across Colorado. This series will introduce you to many of them.

The cache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the cemeteries and tombstones.

COLORADO SPIRIT QUEST is not affiliated with any other 'Spirit Quest' group. Special thanks and credit are given to SixDogTeam who started the Indiana Spirit Quest in 2004. The idea has rapidly spread into many states.

The CSQ endeavor is an enormous and relentless task. It cannot be accomplished by just one or two people. This project will only flourish if there is a multitude of volunteer cachers willing to place these caches.

After locating the cache container, take some time to reflect back on the lives of those pioneers and the effort it took to make Colorado such a great state.

If you are interested in joining the "Walking Through History Clan" contact may be made by sending an e-mail to the owner of "Colorado Spirit Quest #1 - Mountain Passage". Use the 'Send Message" link at the center of the page of their profile.

Each person that places a CSQ cache is responsible for its maintenance.

REMEMBER:

If you are APPREHENSIVE about cemeteries - AVOID this series.

Thanks to Clan Members: Greasepot, Taylorgeotracker, Ivy Dog Parents, Team Boogity3, and Grand High Pobah, CDirtO, FulComers, Lady Coot, Isisfan and Boborr 80909. New Clan members are always Welcome

FOXTON CEMETERY
also known as FOXTON JUNCTION CEMETERY and
BEAVER RANCH CEMETERY

The Foxton Cemetery is located south of Conifer, Colorado on
the west side of U.S. Highway 285.
The Foxton Cemetery was established as a community cemetery in the mid to late 1870's and the first burial, according to gravestone transcriptions, appears to have been in 1879. The last burial here was in 1891.

There are only three legible stone markers
and nine wooden crosses remaining.

Getting there:
Traveling west from Denver on Highway 285, go 13 miles from C-470
past the junction of Highway 73 and the town of Conifer, Colorado.
Travel another 4/10 of a mile to the intersection of Kennedy Gulch
Road. Continue another 3/10 of a mile and before you pass the junction of South Foxton Road, the cemetery will be on your right, or west side of the road on top of a hill alongside the roadway.
There is am ample driveway w/ large green gate just downhill from
the call box.

There is a road that curves more northerly/ easterly from the
green gate that make the terrain a 2. No need to bushwhack. Look
for a camoed pill bottle. Out best info shows that this is Denver
Mountain Parks land. The hiding place should not stump you.

You will have an excellent view of the Historic Foxton Barn, and
Old Stone church.

I took the scenic route from Denver to Caņon City and stopped for a few caches along the way. This one made the list. I parked at the suggested waypoint, but I had to climb over the locked gate. I hiked up the hill and made the quick and easy grab. What an interesting little cemetery. I would never have guessed that it was up here.

As mentioned in previous logs the container is damaged, but someone made some field repairs and so far it seems to be holding. I wish I had brought a replacement container, but perhaps the next person here can do that. I replaced the container with the damaged end slanting down to minimize the chance of water getting in. I took the time to read the headstones and took a few photos.

I'm always happy to log a cemetery cache and especially happy that it is a CSQ cache. Thanks for placing this one and keeping it going. This is one of the oldest CSQ caches that I've logged.

Waited for the rain to pass through and then went for a quick hike to make the find. Interesting little cemetery with the wood crosses and old grave markers. TNLNSL. Thanks for the cache!

Stopped in today on the motorbike. Rats are gnawing on the cache lid but it still appears to be watertight with a little ingenuity.

Nice location! And as others have said, the hint is not what it should be. Unless the cache had been moved a bit. TFTC!

I am in route to meet some friends and climb some fourteeners tomorrow. On my way I killed some time because I was ahead of them and grabbed some caches on the way. I stopped for this one because of the date it was hidden, was a quick stop or because I liked the name of the cache title. Everything was in good shape here.

Any chance I get to stop for a Spirit Quest cache I do so. I have a long way to go to qualify for the challenge but this brings me one step closer to qualifying.

Found GC1E966 - Colorado Spirit Quest #39 Foxton/Beaver Ranch, on August 5, 2017 using Cachly for iOS.

Thank you, Lady Coot for placing a fun cache for all of us to enjoy and giving back to the community. I look forward to finding more of your caches. I also look forward to potentially finding Geocaches with you one day and sharing stories of our hobby or should I say addiction? Cheers!
