!! Exciting New Cache Series!!

“COLORADO SPIRIT QUEST”

The Colorado Spirit Quest is a series of Caches placed by many individuals, near cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of paying respect to the many pioneer ancestors that have ‘walked’ before us.

There are hundreds of cemeteries in the rural and mountain communities across Colorado.  This series will introduce you to many of them.

The cache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the cemeteries and tombstones.

COLORADO SPIRIT QUEST is not affiliated with any other ‘Spirit Quest’ group.  Special thanks and credit are given to SixDogTeam who started the Indiana Spirit Quest in 2004. The idea has rapidly spread into many states.

The CSQ endeavor is an enormous and relentless task.  It cannot be accomplished by just one or two people.  This project will only flourish if there is a multitude of volunteer cachers  willing to place these caches.

After locating the cache container, take some time to reflect back on the lives of those pioneers and the effort it took to make Colorado such a great state.

If you are interested in joining the “Walking Through History Clan” contact may be made by sending an e-mail to the owner of “Colorado Spirit Quest #1 – Mountain Passage”.  Use the ‘Send Message” link at the center of the page of their profile.

Each person that places a CSQ cache is responsible for its maintenance.

REMEMBER:

If you are APPREHENSIVE about cemeteries – AVOID this series.

The France-Harker Cemetery consists of about 20 headstones with several of them broken.  The earliest known grave is that of Frank Chilson in 1895 and the latest known grave is that of Charlie Victor France in 1942.

Mr. France was born on February 5, 1877 in Ohio to David W and Mary France.  He was married to Lydia.

Found this cache along the way down to Geowoodstock. Started the trip off with a 13-county loop around Colorado to try and get some of the counties that I am not normally near or might get to again. After that it was a nice trip of 5 States in one day as I travel further to Fort Worth, Texas. Tons of awesome caches preselected for counties, virtuals, earthcache or the age of the cache. Some got picked because they looked interesting as I drove through the area. So many good stops along the way took a 11-hour drive into a three-day drive. All the corners of the states along the way are great places to stop as well. I met other cachers along the way and ran into some headed the same direction. At a couple points I met up with a couple police officers and got to chat with them about geocaching. Another great reason to keep some printouts of what geocaching is in your car with you at all times. Thank you to all of the cache owners for keeping these active for all of us to find on our travels. I usually put jokes in all of my logs, but these logs are already going on long enough and honestly after 7 days of solo caching and the extreme cache hunting going on in Texas, I’m tired of caching! Now on to the hard part, documenting everything I saw and did while on this trip. So many photo and caches, it’s been an amazing trip. Again, thank you to all the CO’s and other cachers I met this past week!

Found cache. Took a sick day from work to come geocache eastern Colorado - been a while since have been to this part of the state. Surprised to see more snow in Kansas than this part of Colorado, but not complaining. Zoomed by this cemetery without even realizing it - had to turn around and scann the horizon, but finally made it to location. Anyway, make it to location and made the quick enough find. Cache in good shape. TN/LN/SL.

On Day 2 of my caching trip, I decided to concentrate on these CO Spirit Quests with a few ECs and virtuals thrown in. All of these cemeteries are interesting and most are in great shape; lots of history here. Thanks to all the COs who placed these caches for my geo-fun.

Continuing our trek from MN to CO and gathering counties and cemeteries along the way. Another one off the beaten path but road was good and find was quick. Nice hide. SL. TFTC

Wow the fence is all clogged with tumbleweeds. I don't even see a way in with all the tumbleweeds around the fence. Would have liked to have gone in and seen the grave sites. Thanks for the spirit quest.

I've never seen so many jackrabbits in my life. The were everywhere. When I was a kid in western Kansas there was a bounty on coyotes. After killing most of the coyotes the jackrabbit population exploded. But I digress. It must have really rained on Colorado's eastern plains. The cache was soaked too. I replaced it with a black bison tube using the zip tie that was already there. I'm glad I had a bunch of containers in the truck. I'll keep the broken container and log for a few days. Let me know if you want them. Thanks for another CSQ Cache.
