The Rough-legged Hawk is so named because of the feathering that extends down the legs to the base of the toes, an adaptation to the cold environments this species prefers.

DIET: Lemmings and voles make up the bulk of this hawk’s diet, but it will also hunt other small mammals and birds.

The "fourth was with us" on this beautiful Colorado spring day. We visited and found 30 caches, this was one of them. Thanks to all the owners for placing and maintaining these for us to enjoy. It was lovely here today... rolling green grasslands, lots of horses, goats, sheep, even llamas were seen. TFTC SL

Quick fine. We were even greeted two telephone poles back by to hocks sitting 1 foot apart. I’ve never seen two hawks sharing the same telephone pole before pretty cool
