The Rio Grande Trail System goes along the old Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad corridor with the 0.0 trail marker  starting at the confluence of the Colorado and Roaring Fork Rivers in Glenwood Springs and continues 42 miles to Aspen. For more info and a map of the trail visit the trail web site at www.rfta.com/trailmap.pdf
Several caches are located along the trail from Glenwood Springs to Carbondale.

Bike, run, walk or park near the cache. There is access through the fence to the trail. This cache is log only, byop.

After you find the cache, walk over to the bridge for a look at Cattle Creek as it makes it's way to the Roaring Fork River. The Mountain to the south is Mt. Sopris. Mount Sopris is a high, twin-summitted mountain peak. It lies in the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness, part of the White River National Forest. Mount Sopris is notable for having two summits, East Sopris and West Sopris, that are one-half mile (0.8 km) apart and have exactly the same elevation of 12,965 feet. It is named for Richard Sopris, a former mayor of Denver and part of the first European expedition in the Roaring Fork Valley. In 2011 J.P. McDaniels petitioned to rename East Sopris "Mount John Denver" after the Colorado singer. A local poll in Aspen and Carbondale said 74 percent of the respondents were against the proposal.

Gotcha! Found out we were close to having a cache in Eagle County and had to do something about that. Rented some bikes in Glenwood Springs and spent the rest of the day caching along the Rio Grande Trail. Located, signed in, and replaced as found for the next lucky contestant. Thanks for the cache!

Second find of the day with TJFunguys. This was the ninth day of our 10 day vacation exploring parts of Colorado and Utah. We found 25 caches today and had 3 dnfs, but all of those dnfs were due to snow up in the mountains! The main attractions we visited today included Aspen, The Grottos, and Independence Pass. The road to Independence Pass just opened on Thursday and there was still 4 feet of snow up at the pass!

We parked nearby and were amazed at how big this fallen tree was! Sad that it had to be cut down. After a brief search I located the cache in a nice hiding spot. Very nice view of the mountains in the distance from here! TFTC!
