This geocache is hidden amung some rocks on the trail leading up to the summit of Mt. Silverheels.

Recently, it seems that Colorado's mountains are getting more and more crowded. So I wanted to place a geocache that would help people find areas that are often overlooked. I also know that areas such as this are difficult to access, yet they yield wonderful views of the surrounding mountain ranges. I hope this geocache offers more incentive to get out hike 13ers!

Mt. Silverheels is a 13er with an elevation of 13,822 ft. There are several paths up the mountain, however I wanted this geocache to be accessible to cachers no matter which face of the mountain they decided to climb.

Camping is availble nearby at Hoosier Pass. Be sure to note and follow all dispersed camping regulations. I recomend camping near the trail head and getting an early start on the mountain. This also helps with adjusting to the elevation.

As a note, there is no "easy" way up to this geocache. Be sure to research the area, pack accordingly, and keep an eye on the weather to reach the summit.

Second attempt on this one. A few weeks ago, I stayed on the road for too long at the beginning and ended up on the wrong trail. At least I got some other caches, but I was sad to turn around before reaching this one. Today I was thrilled to get to the top of Silverheels and sign the log. TFTC!

Found this cache in great shape today on a solo Silverheels climb. Met up with a couple of nice guys and their dog at the summit - they'd come in from the east near Como; I drove up FS659, making for a fairly short but steep hike. Perfect weather, and as a bonus, with this find and my find on GC2AH55 nearby, I finally qualify to find the High in Colorado challenge cache! Looking forward to doing that on a weekend trip to the Crested Butte area later in the summer with a couple of caching buddies. Great day for a hike like this - thanks for the cache! Edited because I just wanted to add I completely agree with the CO about less-crowded peaks. I've always felt 13ers in Colorado provide as great or better experiences than some 14ers I've climbed.

Today I enjoyed another great hike up Mt Silverheels on an entirely different route than the last time I was up here. I saw a large herd of elk on the top of the ridge to the north. The weather was nice, but windy towards the summit. Stayed on the summit for over an hour enjoying the superb views! Located the cache easily (it's in perfect condition) and signed in. TNLN. Thanks!
