Querida (also called Bassick City) is a ghost town in Custer County, Colorado, United States.  The town was built around 1877 to serve the surrounding silver mines, the most important of which was the Bassick mine. Querida is Spanish for "beloved."

A post office was established in 1880 and by 1882 there were over 1000 residents.  They had a three story hotel, a sawmill and a concentration mill. The Bassick Mine and others in the area were worked sporadically and several claims were consolidated and worked until 1923.  The post office was discontinued in 1906.  There are mill tailings, a few foundations, some crumpling buildings and the dump of the Bassick Mine at the site.

Beware of "No Trespassing" signs in the area... there are large, deep, open holes but the cache is not near these areas. Congratulations to NMKatieGirl for the FTF!

Second cache on this day trip to Westcliffe, it's already a lot wormer up here than it is in Florence. It's always a treat to look at these old mines with their hand laid rock walls, all put up with no mortar, and (mostly) still standing. Signed the log, no room for swag.

Took a nice drive down to a friends Cabin Warming Party in Westcliffe. Grabbed a few finds along the way. Today the weather was finally sunny after all the rain we've been getting and the entire drive down was gorgeous until I was ready to do some caching, the rain was pouring down so I grabbed this one quick and headed to the party. I love seeing these old abandoned buildings, so beautiful. TFTC!

Thanks for the fun cache! Out and about this afternoon with the family to go to Bishop's Castle. Stopping to grab a few caches along the way. This one made the list. On the way to Westcliff we made the slight detour to grab this one and explore the ghost town. What a great location and history! Thanks for bringing us here! Signed the log and replaced as found. All is well here!
