The bike path marks the old rail road bed of the BS&Q Railway that served the coal mines and farms of Eastern Boulder County from the 1880's to the 1950's. You can see fence 'posts' bordering the properties on either side of East Emma St. East of this spot that are made from repurposed rail road rails that were part of the rail line that passed this spot.  These 'posts' are nearly indestructible (at least until rust corrodes them) unlike the newer wooden posts that are currently in vogue.
