The Burning Bear Trail has a wide variety of flowers in the summer. It also leads (sort of) to my favorite geocache to visit. When I first found that cache, I crossed the (now non-existent) beaver ponds. It's better to go further along the trail and cross a small log bridge. I placed this cache to bring people further along the trail but also to somewhat mark that bridge crossing.
The Burning Bear Trail is relatively flat, but it is at roughly 9700 foot elevation. If you are like us living at 300 feet in Pennsylvania, take the altitude seriously. The road up from Grant on the south has been totally paved. I believe it is also paved from the north from Georgetown over Guanella Pass. The hike to the cache is about 1.5 miles one way. Horses and human-powered bikes are allowed as are dogs on leash. When you reach a fork in the trail, go left.
The container is a 1-inch diameter plastic tube about 4 inches long nestled where it should be easily found if you are looking. It's about 130 feet from Burning Bear Trail and across a small bridge of logs. Bring your own writing utensil.
When I placed this in July 2017, there were quite a few mosquitoes.
