!! Exciting New Cache Series!!

"COLORADO SPIRIT QUEST"

The Colorado Spirit Quest is a series of Caches placed by many individuals, near cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of paying respect to the many pioneer ancestors that have 'walked' before us.

There are hundreds of cemeteries in the rural and mountain communities across Colorado.  This series will introduce you to many of them.

The cache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the cemeteries and tombstones.

COLORADO SPIRIT QUEST is not affiliated with any other 'Spirit Quest' group.  Special thanks and credit are given to SixDogTeam who started the Indiana Spirit Quest in 2004. The idea has rapidly spread into many states.

The CSQ endeavor is an enormous and relentless task.  It cannot be accomplished by just one or two people.  This project will only flourish if there is a multitude of volunteer cachers  willing to place these caches.

After locating the cache container, take some time to reflect back on the lives of those pioneers and the effort it took to make Colorado such a great state.

If you are interested in joining the "Walking Through History Clan" contact may be made by sending an e-mail to the owner of "Colorado Spirit Quest #1 - Mountain Passage".  Use the 'Send Message" link at the center of the page of their profile.

Each person that places a CSQ cache is responsible for its maintenance.

REMEMBER:

If you are APPREHENSIVE about cemeteries - AVOID this series.

Thanks to Clan Members: Greasepot, Taylorgeotracker, Ivy Dog Parents, Team Boogity3, and Grand High Pobah, CDirtO, FulComers, and Boborr 80909.   New Clan members are always Welcome

Granite was established in 1867 and has never been abandoned. It became the Lake County Seat in 1868. The citizens of Granite contributed $500 to have the courthouse moved from Dayton (which had been the County Seat) on skids. In 1881 Lake County became Chaffee County after the newly created Carbonate County was renamed Lake County. (Confused yet?!) In 1880 Granite lost the County Seat to Buena Vista.

When Leadville boomed in the 1870s, Granite became a stage stop along the Arkansas River. The Denver & Rio Grand built a narrow-guage line through Granite in 1880.

Granite has many historic buildings, including the old school house sitting above the Arkansas River in the middle of town.

To reach the Granite Cemetery, take Lost Canyon Road west to the cemetery. There is plenty of space to park and another cache nearby (Cache Creek Cache GCPYNN ) The Granite Cemetery cache is not placed in the cemetery, but please take the time to wander the stones.

I've wanted to come back up here for years after riding further up along the CT. Coordinates had us on the other side of the fence but then I read they were off. We found it just like the hint said.

Staying in the area for a few days. Out with John4x4 and the trusty jeep to do some site seeing and of course do some caching. Love this area. Very nice out today, caches in good shape. Thanks for all the smiley faces today.

We be two ole farts (and a dog) from Arkansas. We left home in mid August and have vowed to not return til we have a 1,000 caches in the bag. We left with 150+ replacement caches - if yours is cracked or wet, we will replace it. If there are 3+ DNF's we will replace it.
We appreciate each and every smiley that we get! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
