This geocache has been placed with permission from Steamboat Lake State Park. Park passes cost $7/day or $70/year.
There's been a bit of a fender bender at the foundations of the Old Mill. Well, maybe a little more than a fender bender... There are a couple interesting spots in this area. I recommend approaching GZ from the West so you don't have to cross Old Mill Creek and you can see all the cool spots on the way.
If you go from the West, you might walk across a large concrete slab with an underground chamber covered with a car hood. Feel free to stick your head in, but it's pretty moldy down there.
A little further, you'll see the foundations of an old sawmill that used to be on this spot. At this location is the first set of cars (or what's left of them). Don't hesitate to poke around and examine the pieces, but the geocache is a little further on.
Keep going towards GZ and you'll find a large lump of stone coming out of the ground. It could be natural, but nearby man-made objects suggest otherwise. My theory is that it's concrete poured over dangerous mill materials.
Finally, you'll come to the other set of cars. This is the best part! It's fascinating to observe how well time has preserved some parts of the cars (like the lining on the insides of the doors and the serial number listings) while the rest is completely rusted and demolished. The geocache could be a challenge to find, so I'll leave you a couple hints: you'll have to reach your arm pretty far into something to get the container, and it's protected from rain and snow (although it'll be close to impossible to find anything here in the winter). Good luck and happy caching!
