On Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at about 10:45am, wildfire was reported on Buffalo Mountain near Silverthorne. By 11 am the Mesa Cortina and Wildernest area north of Twenty Grand Road had been placed under mandatory evacuation orders. By Tuesday night the fire was estimated at 100 acres in size, with 0 percent containment.

As of Tuesday afternoon, 1384 residences were in the mandatory evacuation area, and another 1160 households were under pre-evacuation notices.

Officials credited the creation of "fuel breaks" over the years preceeding the fire for preventing the spread of the fire into residential areas.

The incident commander reported that the fire was human-caused, but did not have definitive information about the cause of the fire. Evacuation orders were lifted by Thursday afternoon.

If possible, please include photos of the area in your log (no spoilers please) so we can track the recovery of the area.

{FTF} at 3:47pm. Greetings from Texas and thanks for the maintenance. Climbed Grays Peak earlier today and was pretty spent but saw this was replaced and only .9 miles away and would be a chance at an out of state FTF so strapped C2 to my back and took the muggle brother in law out to make the find. SL FP for the adventure!

It was going to be 97 degrees plus in Denver, so Ms. Anne and headed up the hill. After fighting traffic, we had lunch at A-Basin. Then to the trailhead. Too much lunch, but I got to the cache spot. No cache! This thing was attached with a screw eye, it couldn't just get lost! Anyway, replaced it. See photo.

I made it premium to maybe help it not get stolen.

I’m glad someone just posted a DNF. I almost went out of my way to grab this. I’ll wait til it’s found.

Didn't find it 07/17/2020 By GonzalezFamilyOfSix
Greetings from Texas. Had been eyeing this for a week since we were coming and staying nearby. Day 1 of our trip we hiked here and spent a solid 20 minutes at GZ sadly couldn't find anything. Searched the spoiler pic area quite a bit but ultimately decided to try for this another day. Messaged CO for additional clues. Was really looking to get an out of state FTF but will have to wait another day. May try again soon.
