GeoCat with the Cache
View from Above Carter Park

This cache is placed just off Hermit Placer Trail above Breckenridge’s Carter Park. Parking for the park is located near East Adams and South High Streets. Start from Carter Park and take the Sunbeam Trail until you meet Jack’s Cruel Joke Trail. Follow this trail up the hill to Hermit Placer Trail which will take you near the cache site.

There is a path starting at N 39 28.502 W 106 02.207 that runs perpendicular off the main trail that will take you near cache site that might make access a little easier.

The trail from the park up to near the cache site is relatively easy, but the last few feet up to the cache location is a bit of a scramble.

The cache container is a one foot long piece of black PVC pipe. It is hidden in a rock field under a pile of rocks. The area is wooded so the GPS coordinates might not be completely accurate, so look around.

To exit the cache site, continue along Hermit Placer Trail for a few hundred feet until you reach a clearing. This area overlooks Carter Park and has a great view of Breckenridge. Continue past the clearing and take the Carter Park Trail back down to the park.

 Hints

Hidden under rocks (not much of a hint considering the area) near the base of a tree (somewhat more helpful of a hint.)

Great hike along the Hermit Pacer trail. This one was a little more work but I got it. In Michigan where I'm from the T/D might have been a bit higher!! Thanks for the adventure.

Checked on the cache. The lid was off but everything was nice and dry inside.

This one was a doozy! I had to go way off-trailing for this one. Then my arrow took me down hill through the bramble, then back uphill 100 feet, then over, then over the other way, then down, then up...I was sweaty and sore and scratched, checking under every tree and rock....The sun set and I was a long way from my jeep so I gave up...and then I found it in the shadows. I was rewarded for my persistence with a TRAVEL BUG...I haven't found one of those in years! TFTC!

Beautiful hike and amazing views that we wouldn't have known about without searching for this cache! I think the signal bounce messed us up a bit - know we were very close but no luck for us today!
