Really nice waterfall cache
This cache is located near a sweet little waterfall off high drive. This is a super simple hunt for ya, I'll extend this into a multi cache soon. Start on high drive, best place to park is right in front of a green gate that marks the trail. You'll know your there, because it will be the closest you can get on the road.

To the owner : this area that the cache is in is now a reclamation area and is closed . :(
Stinks because it is Such an awesome place ! But thought you should know. Also , there are 2 containers practically side by side . The crock has mostly little old stickers and no log. The other one has a log and looks in better condition. Maybe I missed some info about the containers . They are also under the big Boulder , not on top of.

Found it but it is now legally off limits with that area being under reclamation. Don't know why because it's such a nice area with the little waterfall and boulders . And there are 2 containers very close together?

Looked around in all the likely spots but no joy. :( Not sure if the snow was hiding it too well or if it was missing or if I just wasn't in the right spot. I'll try to find it again this summer.

I love finding caches that were placed prior to my taking up Geocaching. Thanks to Madhatt for an excellent one! I signed logs in the original as well as the replacement container. IN - A poker chip key chain from Vegas OUT - nothing TFTH!!

Out and about in the Colorado snowy weather. 15 degrees and only one other person on the trail. Ground zero was a great place to brew a cup of coffee and prep for a night hike out. Great day/night to be out. TFTH!

NOT the cache page hint !! Hi - I looked for quite a while as the thunder up the valley became more frequent and closer... The original crock is still here - but look up in the "ceiling" ...sort of around the north side. I started searching more pointedly after I found a small piece of notebook paper lying on the slope below. It's a nice side-hike up here and thrushes were singing in the pre-storm gloom Smile

We loved this cache - it was a real adventure getting to it. This is probably because of a rerouted section of trail. We initially followed the GPS and took a route which was a basically a dead end. It would have been very treacherous and steep if we had attempted it. We backtracked and followed the main trail to a point way up above the creek and on the other side of the valley from the cache. We took a less-than-optimal route down to the river crossing... (I need get some better maps saved on my device)! Anyway, after finding the cache, we returned via what seemed to be the best route. Here's some info that may be helpful for the next cacher.

If you start your hike to the cache from Bear Canyon, walk up High Drive and take the trail along the creek, you will come to a 90 degree bend in the trail to the left and there is a split rail fence, presumably installed to direct hikers to the what is presumably a newer/rerouted trail constructed after the heavy rains from fall 2013. Someone else may know the history. Anyway, right after you pass this fence, here are two waypoints ( disclaimer - I did not test these, I just jotted them down when we were there)

waypoints...
First - 38 48.421 N 104 54.471 W
Then - 38 48.406 N 104 54.465 W

you might be able to just use the 2nd one... this waypoint is the start of what looks to be an older trail closer to the creek providing a much better route to the cache than the ones we selected. There are some areas of this trail which have partially washed out, so be careful, but this trail leads to a relatively convenient brook crossing near some boulders. From there we scrambled up some rocks and up to the cache site.

I remember eating Country Crock as a kid. They may still sell Country Crock, but I hadn't noticed. We found the container somewhat out in the open. As another log indicated, perhaps a bear thought it was food :) There was no log and there were no trade items to speak of (except for some mostly used stickers several kids playing cards) in the container. We signed one of the sticker papers, sealed the lid and hid it right next to the location we found it. We hid it better than we found it using some bark and leaves.

This one is a favorite because it's in a great spot, we love the hike, and it was a real adventure getting to it.

Thanks for placing the Country Crock.
