"Let this be the hour when we draw swords together. Fell deeds awake. Now for wrath, now for ruin, and the red dawn. Forth Èorlingas!" - King Theoden in "The Two Towers".

"Let this be the hour when we solve puzzles together. No fell deeds here. Now for the path, now for the hunt, and the westerly view. Forth Geocachers!" - cajrrman on this cache page.

The cache is not at the posted coordinates. That would be good place to park but there is also a closer spot that you can locate yourself. To determine where in Rohan to find this cache you get to properly answer the questions in the quiz below. Do first give it a try without using any magic rings (the internet) to test your Lord of the Rings knowledge - about horses. Then next travel thither to the waypoint labelled "The Entrance". The cache is not far from there. Do be on the lookout for black riders and nazgul while in the area..

Since I wasn’t familiar with this literature, I had to look up the answers to get a happy checker. Found the sneaky way in, signed log, and didn’t run into any muggles. Thanks for the puzzle and the cache! Nice container!

D'oh! I didn't ready carefully enough and actually got this wrong with my first set of coordinates. Nicely done, RR Man.

[FTF] at 10:37am. I am very slowly working on finding a puzzle for every day of the year. This is one of many days I needed to fill in. I had planned to get another puzzle close to home, and then I saw this pop up!

I loved the theme of this cache. I was able to answer three of the questions without any research or confirmation, but the other three I admit I had to look up. I could eliminate multiple options, but I wasn't certain of the correct answer on those. While I'm not a full Tolkien nerd, I did read the books long before the movies. :) So I was glad I could answer one of the questions off the top of my head that was not addressed at all in the movies.

Although there are a lot of puzzles by this CO in the area, and I live very close to the area, I have never been FTF on one of them. Either they published too late in the day only to be found in the wee hours of the morning, or I have tried being FTF only to DNF. I was determined not to let that happen today!

I decided to take the 5 and 2 year old and the dog with me though on the search, figuring it would be a nice walk and fun to have them with me. While I wouldn't disagree that this is a good cache for kids, perhaps not a 5 and 2 year old in almost 90 degree weather! I did have plenty of water, but they tire out quickly. And of course I didn't park as close as I could have (just in the parking lot). It's not a bad walk at all, but heat and lack of stamina are not a good combination.

Anyway, we eventually did make it to GZ. As I have found many of this COs hides around here I thought I knew what to look for. That was a mistake. It took at least 15 minutes to make the find. And it was at the point where I thought I'd have to throw in the towel again. But then I finally spotted it where I didn't expect it to be. Great hide. And I FINALLY get that FTF!

Coords were good, but I'd have to say this was more of a 2/2 with all the various options of where it could be, and the final walk to GZ. But that wasn't helped by the kids and dog I had in tow.

And after all that, despite the walk invoking cries of being tired and wanting to go home, once we got close to the park we spent another 40 minutes hanging out there. Kids! :) :)

Thanks for the hide cajrrman
