A cache between caches to encourage continuing on.
We found getting to Silverheels' caches set along the Alkaline Basin Road quite a hike when we were forced to take it by foot due to the road requiring more than our little pickup, who refused to go into 4WD, could handle. We were motivated by getting the FTF’s, but often thought of those who would come in the future, without that particular incentive. So, we planted a couple more caches along the way for encouragement.
The Alkaline Basin Road is pretty challenging after Ranch Overlook GC57HBD due to width, curves, boulders, steep inclines and loose rocks; we advise horse, ATV, or shanks mare (like we used). A hard core lifted short wheel base 4x4 or rock crawler can probably make it farther up the road. Motorcycles? It’s your neck that will get broken when you dump it on the boulders, LOTS of them!
At an elevation of 7569 feet, 7.8 miles from US HWY 50, and 0.14 mile from the Hidden Creek GC, this cache is approximately 20 feet west of the road in a shaded area with rocks to sit on for a little break. An easy find in a juniper; contains log only.
Congrats! to silverheels for FTF on 7-14-14
