Takes less than an hour  Scenic view  Available during winter  Parking available  Thorns  Short hike (less than 1km)

A short hike to the location along the rim of the Cuchara River Canyon. Rarely travled with spectacular views.

I recoment a rugged enclosed shoe as the hike will be thru catus and sharp rocks.

FTF! with nite_raven at 11:10am. When this published there were plans to make a service call to Walsenburg on Monday so we figured we'd wait until then. Found out at 9:45am Monday morning that we weren't going on the service call. nite_raven and I figured why not and headed up anyway. The road in was freshly graded and we were the first tracks. The old building is cool and it's nice to see the windmills up close instead of on the horizon from I-25. The random rocks were neat too. Once we hit the left turn we had a cattle herd to wind through. Each one took more time to saunter off than the previous one. After making it through the cows the entire road was blocked by the grader coming back at us. That shoulder is extremely soft so I was a bit worried we'd sink. Managed to find a nice green patch between the barbed wire and the grader and squeezed around him on the plants and bushes instead of the soft sand. The entire drive in was fun. The entire area at GZ is crazy photogenic. The only downside to the entire adventure was the insane amount of bitey flies and it must have been 105 degrees along the rim. When we did John Wayne back in January of last year we said it'd be cool to come back and explore the canyon one day. Now here we were on the opposite side! Spent awhile searching until I spotted the crazy obvious container. Nicely done. Everything about this cache was awesome. The location, the views, the container, the adventure of getting out here, everything. Thanks for bringing us to another 'if it wasn't for geocaching' area!
