Not for Cars. Four wheel or OHV, dirt bikes etc. Elevation around 10,723. Don't forget water, snacks and comfort stuff.
We recommend beginning on the St.Mary's Glacier side going up FS Rd 175.4 (Ninety-four hill). St. Mary's Glacier/Alice area is off I-70 Exit 238 onto Fall River Road going west from Denver and points East. The cache is on FS land but there are many private mining claims in the area so please stay on the roads. Stay on FS 174.1 until you reach FS 271.1. It will take you to the top of a saddle where you will be overlooking open county and a series of small knolls with lots of old tree stumps (these trees were cut in the 1800's for use by miners in the area) Down the hill you will find a FS marker 271.1F and just over the ridge to the right you will see a fairly large tree with two smaller trees and a man-made rock ringed firepit nearby. (Find these landmarks and just up the hill looking southeast you will see a stump with rocks on top. You must begin a hike from there. Should you find the cache, there is an interesting "jar" nearby. Also please note that this cache will be covered by snow in the wintertime.

Original Contents include:
Log book and pencil
Letter about a "Jar" nearby. (Please leave this letter in cache)

Came up to cool down after a hike at Heritage Square and had a great time bouncing my truck up the hill. The views are incredible and the wildflowers are out in full force. Parked about 0.35 mi west of the caceh and very happy to say that this oldie is still in good shape after 5 years of no logs! There was a finder in 2011, but no log here. Went over and found the jar too, maybe a summit registry? Cheers!

Waited a year and tried again. Sure seems farther than .35 of a mile. Also found the jar which is quite unique. Can't believe that all those people stumbled on it. Thanks for the cache.

After 3 years, I decided to walk over and do this one. Well, after approaching from the north, giant snow drifts were encountered about half way there. Hope it isn't another 3 years before I try it again.

Great Cache Found with Nav42. Found the story of the Jar worth the difficult time we had getting to the Cache. We approached the Cache from the East and found the terrain very, very difficult and the our Topo map to be out dated as much of the property is littered with private property. We left at 130p and didn't get to the Cache until 430p. Since it was only 1.38 miles of hiking, I think you will agree that approaching the cache from the west is a better bet. Made it out in just before sundown to find a deputy about to mount a very premature search for us. If you do decide to approach from the east, Stop at an old homested foundation at 39°48'43.29"N 105°36'9.93"W. Even if you do come from the "right" direction, it's only a 1/2 mile hike to the homested. The Cache was fairly easy to find. We used map and compass to find the point and hardly brought out the GPS. Took some stickers, and left a peice of software.

12:05. What, you mean the road doesn't go all the way to the cache? Gee, I guess will will just need to walk through the wildflowers and enjoy the view. What could be better? TNLNSL

Found it with donuthole, and as he described in his log, the gunfire was very disconcerting! The cache was the type we were looking for, though, some good 4-wheeling, and little hiking (although I prefer hikes on a trail). Neat spot, and we actually found the jar before we found the cache! Found with FatTony. Had quite the scary situation finding this one. After hiking a while towards the cache, we encountered a rifle target. On an opposing peak were a group of campers with rifles. We foolishly assumed that they saw the Jeep and Xterra pull up and see us get out and start hiking. A few steps past the rifle target, the shots began to fire and we began to run. While we were not sure they were firing our direction, it was not worth standing around. We proceeded to find the cache and the jar, shots firing on and off throughout our hike. No worries though...when were returned to our vehicles we were all intact.

Number 4 of 4 today. I parked 1 mile in and walked to all the caches from there. (If Bhob can do it, then I can do it!) I promised not to ruin my Honda CRV by trying to take it 4-wheeling. I worked up a sweat, the weather was warm and good. TNLN
