NGS Benchmark Series.

This is a series to show geocachers more of our nation's benchmarks. Though they can be found in every county in the continental U.S. benchmarks are are just another little known survey tool to the public. But when you look on the NGS site or Geocaching.com you can see every detail about them. There is also description for each that tells exactly where they are. These descriptions interest me the most, at times you have to wonder where in the world did the railroad track go that was 50 feet from a certain benchmark years ago. I hope that this series gives a historical insight to geocachers of what our country looked like in the years past.

DESCRIBED BY MOUNTAIN SURVEYING AND MAPPING INC 1993 (KCH)
THE STATION IS LOCATED ABOUT 10 MILES (16.1 KM) SOUTHEAST OF CASTLE
ROCK, COLORADO, ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF EAST UPPER LAKE GULCH ROAD, IN
SECTION 21, TOWNSHIP 9 SOUTH, RANGE 66 WEST OF THE 6TH P.M.,
OWNERSHIP-- DOUGLAS COUNTY. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE INTERCHANGE
OF INTERSTATE 25 AND UPPER LAKE GULCH ROAD EXIT---, GO EAST ON UPPER
LAKE GULCH ROAD FOR 4.9 MILES (7.9 KM) TO THE STATION OF THE SOUTH.
THE STATION IS A BRASS DISK SET IN CONCRETE, FLUSH WITH THE GROUND,
2.4 FEET (0.7 M) SOUTH OF A DOUGLAS COUNTY FIBERGLASS WITNESS POST, 34
FEET (10.4 M) SOUTH OF THE CENTERLINE OF SOUTH LAKE GULCH ROAD, 36.5
WEST OF THE CENTERLINE OF A FIELD ROAD.

The benchmark is located on the other side of the fence by about six feet, but there is no need to trespass to get the cache. Good luck and have fun!

Nice weather, time - we made the "power"-trail by car. Most caches are well, some were not so easy to find - but we found all. We thank for this cache-road in a pretty area.

In the area with lasouthpaw to sign as many Challenge caches, visit as many Virtuals, and get as many rays as we can for the 360 Degrees of Colorado Challenge. We had beautiful weather today as we cached our way back north. We had started this series in the winter... so much easier today!!! TFTC!

This one may not officially be a part of the power trail, but it was in our way so we found it, too!

After a couple days of caching around Colorado Springs with peace love pi, we started heading back north. We wanted to both beat traffic and get some caching done. We remembered how much we enjoyed this power trail and decided to come this way to complete it. We had a great day for caching - mild temps, slight breeze, sunny but not hot. We replaced logs and containers as needed and we were pretty efficient moving along the trail. Sorry for the cut and paste logs, but we were cruisin! Thank you for this most awesome set of caches. Thanks Tom.dog for giving me a reason to get outside. It’s always worth it when you are enjoying nature. There is nothing better than acting like a kid again, digging through weeds and climbing trees, all to sign my name on a piece of paper.

Apparently there is also a benchmark near this area but it is beyond the property line. Back with TeamBlackSheep to do the rest of the geotrail we started on the 12th. Signing as TBS and SS for short. TFTC!
